to paraphrase my Dad's advice about vintage Jags:"if you can't afford a new one, you can't afford an old one..."

sadly true, but hasn't (nor shouldn't) stopped me from trying :-)

It's not only Jags that fall into this category, Cougars are just the same.086_gaah.gif.afc514336d60d84c9b8d73d18c3ca02d.gif008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

I'll second all the comments regarding 'cheap plane'. The reality is that these two words don't really go together. Yes some aircraft are 'cheaper' in comparison to their more expensive cousins, however as with most things in life, you will get what you pay for. It pays to do your homework before buying any aircraft because the one guarantee is that owning an aircraft involves significant ongoing expenses.

For under 20k you could get a good single seat that'll do about 60knots or maybe a 2 stroke 2 seater that needs a bit of work.

None of the RA aircraft are a viable option to travel from A to B on a given day, weather will eventually get in the way and by the time you get the plane warmed up etc you probably could have driven there for a fraction of the cost.

If you want to take the family on holidays, I'd say go commercial airlines or buy the cessna in the classifieds and spend another 50k on a licence and an instrument rating.

If you just want to enjoy flying for the fun that it is then 20k will do it with plenty of change.

Dont't become a masochist, invest the $8000 in a plane. There is one here for $4000 asking.

yeah, but "invest" implies at least the hope of a return...

Though with the dividends being paid in smiles, it would be hard to lose!

Of course. I've seen people who regard their only purpose in life is to make money, with no time to enjoy it. In the end someone else with a big smile on their face inherits it.
