ayavner Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 On channel 9 last night, right between 2 Big Bangs (subtle, 9... subtle...). The #1 was the Hudson River landing, but I am surprised QF32 wasn't on there. They showed one where a small twin landed on a small strip in the bahamas and slowly rolled off the end onto the beach... not exactly up there in the top 10 in my book.. Anyone else catch it? I watched it in the spirit of learning from other's misfortunes, but happy they didn't show any real disasters.
Blue Drifter Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 After the dribble commentary with the first accident, I stopped watching.
ayavner Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Exactly, that commentary made it difficult to watch... very cringe-worthy...
Guest Andys@coffs Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 5 minutes of action intersperced with inane commetary and repeated sections....repeated sections....repeated sections.....repeated sections...... The twin landing you talk of......WTF was the pilot thinking...his mains didnt contact the tarmac until he was within a few meeters of the piano keys at wrong end of the strip....What does he need to know he should go around????? Its here if you havent seen it already Andy
ayavner Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 how bout that one where the jumbo skims right over the beach about a meter up?

fly_tornado Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 that's not scary, you want scary, this is scary 1
Guest Andys@coffs Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Yeah but the 10 scariest(arguable) landings were indeed landings...yours was merely an unexpected arrival with force!! Andy
ayavner Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 yeah, can a mod change my title to "landings" rather than "crashes"? sorry bout that! FT: Yikes! Done - anonymod
shags_j Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 10 you tube videos with crappy ass commentary.
boingk Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 "Coming up next... on 'You Should Probably Change The Channel'... I'll introduce you to some weird-looking 'experts' and have them give their opinion on some inane, poorly filmed stock footage. Coming up next on... 'You Should Probably Change The Channel'." I hate inane shows like that, got stuck with it on the bigscreen at work as there was literally almost nothing else on. Don't get me wrong, I like Aircrash Investigation, but that 10 Worst Landings was awful. Repeated stock footage, 'experts' I've never heard of and who probably don't hold authoritative positions, no drama or real investigation. Just bad flying and worse yakking. Incidentally, most 'Aircrash Investigations' episodes are all on YouTube in unbroken segments. Cheers - boingk 1
dazza 38 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I agree with the gents above, the commentary was absolutely terrible. Talk about beating up the stories .
ayavner Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 I feel at this point I should reiterate that I also thought it was awful, lest anyone think I posted this as an endorsement of the program ... 2
johnm Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Wouldn’t that be 12 mind numbing advert segments ……………interspersed with 12 repetitive scary landings (all conveyed in a patronising paternalistic tone (did not see it but could only imagine))
Virago Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Ayavner, that clip where the 747 skims over the beach is a daily occurrence at St. Maartens. There are plenty of youtube clips about this very strip. If you are fortunate enough to have a go in one of those airline flight simulators, they can set you up for a St. Maartens landing. Better take along a fresh set of underwear though ... lol!
boingk Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Meh... the landings are all the same regardless of the strip. Its whats around the airport that causes danger, and I'd much rather a specialised approach than a tricky takeoff! If anyones keen, check out the 'highest airport in the world' - side of a mountain in the Himalayas! - boingk
dutchroll Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 The twin landing you talk of......WTF was the pilot thinking...his mains didnt contact the tarmac until he was within a few meeters of the piano keys at wrong end of the strip....What does he need to know he should go around????? Looked like he was thinking "Oh yeah.....touching down just before the 1000ft markers.......nailed it, man!" It's just that you need a bit more S/A regarding which end of the runway those 1000ft markers are on....... 1
