  1. 1. So what keeps you away

    • I think this is a waste of time and money
    • I dont understand why we need this (confussed)
    • I dont understand why we need this (I dont agree with the reasons you have given)
      0
    • I cant afford the time off (Likely a full day for the meeting)
    • Its too far (distance and cost of fuel for a car)
    • Its too far (I dont have transport I can use)
    • Its Too far (Accomodation, probably 2 nights issue)
    • Its money I can ill afford at this time of year
    • None of the above I just dont see that the issues warrant the level of concern
    • I would however watch this in real time on my computer if that facility was offered

However I hearby promise not to pursue a career in marketing and statistics.!! As an IT Guys (and Ex Electronics Tech) I'd rather commit suicide that do that job, which isnt to say its a bad job for all, just me....in case someone missinterpreted what I meant.....augie.gif.8d680d8e3ee1cb0d5cda5fa6ccce3b35.gif

For clarity- I said take nothing from the members, (coffee etc) purely because it alledged that some board members have already taken from the membership to fight battles.

My post #27 maybe a option to get more peeps to the meeting. Just thinking out loud.

Hi guys,

While very concerned about the turmoil in the RAA right now, I've been out of the loop and trying hard to play catch-up on everything going on.

I would be very interested in attending the GM, but again can't justify the time and expense to visit Canberra.

Rather than talk about laptops and webcams, how much would it cost to engage a professional company to webcast the whole event. I assume not cheap - perhaps $3000-4000? But compared to the issues we're facing at present, this could prove inexpensive in the long run. I presume there are companies or venues that handle everything from bandwidth to AV to web clients to voter registration and voting handling - or better still, a venue where all of this is available pre-set, reliable and on-tap, within a packaged rate?

I've attended amateur webcasts in the past - and even the best amateurs lead to an event where glitches, poor audio, etc. just lose people's interests, and you can see the attendees dropping off the webcast within minutes. They never work.

Perhaps a vote on these forums, or somewhere publically accessible with a posting on the RAAus website, to establish a sense of attendance on this kind of approach, followed by a decision on whether to go ahead?

I also agree with paying a little more in membership for staff fees and better governance, than what we are going through at the moment. My current membership fees would pale into insignificance against a large number of $150 flying hours, or certification costs, or not being able to fly at all, because of a less beneficial regulatory regime.

In case you missed this post on another thread:

For decades the NSW Teachers Federation has run state-wide Skychannel meetings on major issues. Every reasonable-sized town in Australia has a pub, RSL or racecourse with a Skychannel dish, big screen, microphones, etc. Local hire costs are around $60 peer session. It's all there set up waiting for us.

My post reads ambiguously. The money I am referring to is investing in RAAus type activities Planes etc. The uncertain outcome is a reality, and in the past changing rules in midstream was costly to me. I could not expose myself to something like that again and still claim to be sane..

I was not referring to the cost of going to Canberra. The last time I drove there was for one of the original Human Factors courses. Fuel and accomm was over $500. That is a factor and it is a day's drive eachway. People may be able to pool a car and driving and maybe some cheap accomm might be found. The "motel" the RAAus use is not dear. They might do a deal . Nev
