What kind could this be?

Out of curiousity, I wonder if anyone might know (or guess) what kind of plane this 2-seater could be?

 

It's being built from plans and the material is of wood and foam. The foam is honeycomb.

 

I came across it by chance earlier this year in the US (the guy building it has yet to learn to fly, and expects it to be ready for flight within a year).
