HI, Just landed here at the forum. I've spent too many years in the back of commercial airliners as a passenger. Now it is my turn to try my hand at flying. Currently researching flight training and reading plenty of manuals and online documentation.003_cheezy_grin.gif.c5a94fc2937f61b556d8146a1bc97ef8.gif

Hi WWL,

Best of luck with your training. Don't be afraid to seek the advice of the many people on this site - there are loads of people here with stacks of experience.

Happy Landings

Welcome OneWingLow. . . . I like that handle too !!

And I agree with Neil, there is some good stuff on here. . . . that's why I joined ( ! ) I like to be associated with clever people, hoping some of it rubs off on me.

It's amazing what you can learn about flying each time you defy gravity OR. . . read something about it. You never stop, the trick is absorbing it all ( Just remember to take some of it with a pinch of additional salt on your vegemite )

No Neil, It's based at TATENHILL ( EGBM ) an airfield near to Burton Upon Trent in Staffordshire. Since it is the world's largest single engined biplane, we put what is probably the smallest next to it, this is the Tiger Cub, "Black Adder" which was sold as a kit in the UK in the very early 1980s BEFORE THE PROTOTYPE HAD EVEN FLOWN !!!!!!! It killed one pilot, and seriously injured another before someone decided to redesign it, and lengthen the fuse by about 300 mil. The one shown lives in the Boulton and Paul Aircraft Museum in Wolverhampton, after it was donated by the owners at our club. We had one of our club members, a retired RAF Squadron Leader, ( Graham Taylor ) who had 15,000 hours on Canberras and over 3,000 on Tiger Moths fly it, and he said, "Get rid of it, it's bloody dangerous" . . . so we did. Biggest + smallest. Makes a good pic though. The AN2 is decked out inside like a Gin Palace, with furry carpets, no outdoor shoes allowed. Owned by a local millionaire ( of course ) He can afford the 45 - 50 GPH required by the Rusian Rip-off of the 1200 Hp flying fortress engine.

(FOR MORE DETAILS ON FLYING THE AN2 TYPE, ( Not the one in the picture ) SEE MY POST IN site news and announcements / Posting Pics of your own aircraft .)

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the info - very interesting. Apparently they use the one at Popham for parachuting......no furry carpets there!

Cheers

Welcome WWL,

I joined the RAA in October and received my shining new Pilot Certificate in the mail this morning. I cut up my student card immediately :)

What a great 3 months it has been and I can't wait to see what 2013 holds in place.

Just ask when you need info.
