Guest Howard Hughes Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Anyone know of a good aviation moving map GPS for android?
The Therm Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Not specifically for aviation but My Tracks works well and can integrate well into Google Earth
fly_tornado Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 backcountry explorer does moving map but its not an aviation service. bearing and distance AU/NZ is worth buying.
dahl327 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 PocketFMS been around a long time but only recently on Android. Works well although doesn't have the functionality of the windows version at this date but they promise to bring it up to par in the next updates. I like it because you can plan the trip on your windows desktop then send the plan via cloud to your android device. 1
drkgld Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I've just discovered Oziexplorer for Android. But where can I get aviation maps for it?
horsefeathers Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 EasyVFR. -from pocket fms folks-all planning can be done on Android device - niceish, but not as user friendly as AvPlan/Ozrunways VFR Navigation - now with moving maps and terrain maps
Guest Escadrille Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 So you need to buy and Android device( Samsung ,Telstra or similar ) and then Easy VFR from Pocket FMS and then Oziexplorer for Android. Is that right? when I checked on Oziexplorer it said that the software for Android was only a trial version and would drop out after 15 minutes..Or am I just very confused. Seems to me Apple mini with Ozrunways is popular cause it is just ...easier..?? Andy

Just the Android device, and EITHER "Easy VFR", OR "VFR Navigation". It depends on your needs. I like VFR Navigation, as its major strength is its simplicity - ask for a list of nearest airports, select one, and it will tell you how to get there. It wont plan a flight or show weather, but sometimes, simple is best. However, as before, Avplan or OzRunways are both, in my humble opinion, much more polished, and complete applications.
Guest Escadrille Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Many Thanks HF. I flew to Watts Bridge on Saturday with a mate in his Tecnam who had an Apple mini ipad and Oz runways and I was very impressed with its useability... Andy
Nev25 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Have a look at XCSOAR its for Gliders but worth a look
