Mine is also a Kane of the same vintage. It has a number of formulae scratched ( roughly engraved) into the metal so I could remember how to calculate DH and other strange things like that.

myself how to navigate and all you need is the map infront of you and some simple caculating using 10 minute markers.I have the one I bought around 1979 and it has written "Kane Dead Reckoning Computer" Though I wish they did not use the word "dead"

Do I DEDUCE that the dreaded "Dead" word is found irritating by some aviators . . . . . . ??

I've got one of those that I kept for a spare, and it has mainly been lent out to early learners for practice, prior to buying themselves a superduper moving map replacement. . . . . .

Anyway, enough of this NAV talk already. . . . Just had a call from home, I've got to go and help the wife clear out the attic for the insulation guys. . . I went up there with her yesterday to have a look,. . . . . . geez, . . . . dirt, grease and cobwebs, . . . . . but what the heck, She's good with the kids.

Some of the early ones have an ICAN base. this only affects baro based calcs. You can do your wind things and distances. Nev
