Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 There is a gazelle missing from Caboolture area I believe maybe a female pilot. 2 rescue helicopters and others searching now. I hope all is ok and they are in a paddock somewhere 2 1
ayavner Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Can't find any news anywhere, is there a link?
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 118.800 is the search freq the local Ctaf at Ycab if you have a scanner
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 nothing on news yet. I listen to the local Ctaf here when in the workshop she went missing about 10am this morning
Admin Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 There's no search aircraft showing on the Radar here at Recreational Flying: http://www.recreationalflying.com/pages/flight_radar not that that means anything but it's always the first place I go to
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 Rescue 500 and a surf life saving chopper are searching 1000 ft and below
Tomo Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Careflight from Toowoomba just took off and are heading to a place 9 miles NW of Caboolture to help out. 1
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 Dornia now searching and aircraft are co-ordinating on 123.100
Cosmick Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 The Dornia has flown down from Cairns and has commensed flying a large rectangle over the area at 25000 ft
webbm Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Thanks Mike. That aircraft is showing up on the radar mentioned above. I hope all will be OK...
Gnarly Gnu Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Can someone please explain how this SAR works.... why the search aircraft repeats the same circuit constantly without moving about?
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 The Dornia stays high overhead and directs the search craft below....sort of like an awacs that the military use. He also monitors all communications and beacon/mobile phone signals.........................................Maj...
cscotthendry Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Can someone please explain how this SAR works.... why the search aircraft repeats the same circuit constantly without moving about? I believe (but not certain) that the Dornier is the coordinating aircraft. That's why it's doing orbits at 25,000 feet.
ave8rr Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 From my many hours of flying Orions on Search and Rescue missions I cannot understand why the Dornier is sitting at 25,000ft looking for a beacon. IF there was a beacon it would of been heard by either the satellite or aircraft overflying the area. An area of proability has to be determined based on fuel on departure and details of flight with the operator. A visual search by low flying aircraft and public reports will find the location. I assume the pilot had a PLB and IF this has not been activated then things are not looking too good. EDIT: Just read Ross's message above and understand why the Dornier is at flight levels. 1
FlyingVizsla Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 This (why the search aircraft is going in circles up high) was discussed at length on the thread "Aircraft Missing from Monto" regarding a very similar search by the Dornier not far from this site. From memory someone with good knowledge explained the whole procedure. Sue 1
dazza 38 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Lets not get to concerned at this stage, a Gazelle is a type of aircraft that is very survivable in a crash. The fly slow & crash relatively slowly. The cockpit structure is well built IRT a impact.Along as there isnt a major airframe failure in the air, there is a good chance of survival. 1 1
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 I heard the owner of the school where the aircraft is from say this morning on air that there is a PLB in the aircraft but it hasn't been used so not a good sign
ayavner Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I hope they thought to leave their cell phones on, even if there is no signal. fingers crossed for a good outcome. Still odd there is nothing even on the local Caboolture news site.
Cosmick Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Everyone must be very tight lipped, none of the News Services appear to have reported on this event
ave8rr Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Everyone must be very tight lipped, none of the News Services appear to have reported on this event Was just thinking that myself Cosmick. With all the activity I would of thought the News outifits would of been onto it.
Cosmick Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 The Aircraft http://www.caboolturerecreationalaviation.com.au/gazelle.html

Guest Maj Millard Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 They are a little slow on Sundays....haven't you noticed how thin the Monday paper is ??..........................Maj...
Kyle Communications Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 The colour of the aircraft doesnt help either....will be hard to locate around the glasshouse there is lots of heavy pine forests there
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Well I can see why it's taking a while to find it...as good as comoflage...................................................Maj...
