planedriver Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 We all remember Tom Cruise in the Movie " TOP GUN" when he makes a low pass near the control tower and causes an officer to spill coffee down his shirt. Well here are short clips of the top 10 low pass flybys ever filmed ... and of course for nostalgia, let's see that Top Gun low pass again. Pay particular attention to the last shown low pass. It is number one. Watch the halo of water around the plane. It happened during a Blue Angels event over San Francisco several years ago. It was the pilot's last show with the team and he had nothing to lose. Many of the boats in the bay lost windows to the sonic blast. It's a kick to watch. Number 3 was pretty impressive too. http://biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=19448
ayavner Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 hehe i remembered that Top Gun scene when i was doing Circuit Emergencies.... CFI idled engine and I turned and glided it right past the tower, and thought how silly it would be if I could edit that into the coffee spill scene somehow.
Deskpilot Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I remember standing on the wing of an 74 Sqdn E.E.Lightning, watching the departure of a Swedish Viggen sqdn that had been part of a Tiger meet. Most of the flight just took of and disappeared however, the last one did a steep and returned to the airfield, aimed straight for the control tower, which was about 100meters away from me. The Viggen dropped low as it came across the field and at the last second, and I mean last second, it picked up it's nose and just missed the aerials on top of the tower. From my position, I saw the ATC staff dive for the floor and I saw it's underside through the tower windows. The Viggen then did a couple of rolls on it's way up and back to Sweden, where, we were later to hear, the pilot was grounded.
