rgmwa Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 A link to a 1943 Army Air Corps Training Video on how to assemble a P-47 in the field without lifting apparatus and using only basic mechanics tools. This was a really well thought-out procedure. No computer aided design in those days either. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=V2D3k0sJ8HM rgmwa
DGL Fox Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Very interesting video..amazing what they could do with out cranes etc.. Thanks for putting that up rgmwa.. David
Chrism Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Great-imagine if you could still order one in a crate and put that vid to practical use! Especially if a P-47 came at 1940's prices-I think around US$80,000!
M61A1 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Interesting to watch.........health & safety would lose the plot if they saw you do that these days.

Cheers Neil Not knocking HSE, but if they had to apply all the rules we have today, they'd still be building it and the Germans would have won! rgmwa
Zibi Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I sometimes wonder how would a war of that scale look like today, with all of today's equipment that can hardly roll out of the hangar if it doesn't have a full maintenance team supporting it. Imagine having to take a F35 out of a crate and assemble it, or maintain a modern tank when your supply lines are flaky at best. I guess it would end pretty quickly or we'd revert to WW2 tech or worse shortly after.
