Airstrips around Port Douglas??

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can provide me with advice and information regarding the closest, safest airstrip to Port Douglas, FNQ that you might recommend.

 

I will be flying from Byron Bay in a Jab 230d sometime in March/April.

There is a strip (grass i think) just North of the Port Douglas access turn off, just on the eastern side of the Bruce I believe. Don't know who owns it, or if it is for general use. There were a couple of choppers and a UL or two last time I viewed it. Hope this helps................................................................Maj...

On GE it is 1 NM north of turn off junction with Bruce Hwy, and to the east of the highway a bit. Marked on GE as Port Douglas MLP runway. There is also an airport symbol very close in to town by the cricket oval, that appears to be a helipad only........................................Maj...

Agree with the above posts. I'm from port and its about 10 min drive from town centre. It's pretty short tho. Can't say how short as I've never used it. Try contacting a local scenic tour mob called sky safari they use it and I'm sure they would help.

Looking at the VNC map there seems to be a strip called Wonga. Anyone familiar with that airstrip?

There is no airstrip at wonga beach area ( well useable one there that i know of) ......weather permitting i'm heading down there next week ( dropping off a drum of fuel for future use )
