Admin Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Anyone see any interesting things about this clip...like the use of multi-grips instead of spanner etc
Deskpilot Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Hmmm. Not Best Practice by any means. Would have got court marshaled for it in the RAF.
dazza 38 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Hmmm. Not Best Practice by any means. Would have got court marshaled for it in the RAF. And the RAAF as well . We would have been shot if we used a adjustable spanner as well. A big no no.
Admin Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 If you are quick you will also see the use of a hammer on a shifter...a hammer fixes everything
cherk Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Anyone see any interesting things about this clip...like the use of multi-grips instead of spanner etc A Tool ,is a Tool, is a Tool, is a Tool................and even some people are shown to be TOOLS...........too!!!

Cherk, we are trying to promote proper maintenance skills here on this site and not a who cares attitude...the only tool is the person who uses the wrong tool that can cause some unseen issue resulting in part failure and kills themselves...there have been far too many deaths in our industry this year

I think MY sense at humour is a little different than yours. However I'm suitably chastised.

Ultralights Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 nice demonstration of correct use of tool, i would have been sacked for doing most of that, even at qantas... tools such as shifting spanners, monkey wrenches are banned from my current workplace with military rotary wings.
Guest Andys@coffs Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I think what you are seeing is a result of "Editorial license" The crap tools were sitting on top of some daggy wooden box that is never visible again in any picture of around the engine.....I paused on that bit and cant see any toolkit markings which I would have expected (There is a single red stripe in enamal paint....in the RAAF we would have had engraved CTK nnnn so that a full toolkit check to identify any missing tools at the end of the job was possible, and to identify who failed if a tool is subsequently found. Further on in the video I can see the type of toolkits that I would have expected, big red steel rollaround kits that probably came from Snap-on, that will have a $ price tag well beyond what any of use here can afford without one or more Lotto wins.... I did see the guy using the ball penne Im not sure on what exactly, it could have been a pin on the Ground Support Equipment lifting gear maybe???.... The Guy at the end using what appeared to be multigrips... The only thing I can come up with is if it was Plug Pliers used to lock on multipin electrical connectors. They look like multigrips but have sacrificial soft plastic jaw inserts that are designed to fail well before the plug does.....That said the open to lock is normally less than 90 degrees and that guy was waving then around a fair bit.... What about Boeing or the engine OEM mandated specialist tools.......That might be a possibility.......I hope..... Andy
