planedriver Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Lion Air unveils order for over 230 Airbus jets Indonesian carrier Lion Air is ordering 234 Airbus twinjets, including 174 from the re-engined A320neo family. Its firm agreement covers 109 A320neo and 65 A321neo, and will also feature 60 current A320 jets. They will be delivered over 2014-26. Airbus values the agreement at $24 billion at catalogue prices. "The fuel-efficient A320 Family will enable Lion Air to achieve the lowest possible operating costs and continue to offer the most competitive fares in the Asian region," says Lion Air chief Rusdi Kirana. "This landmark order will ensure that the Lion Air group will continue its expansion with one of the most modern and advanced fleets in the world." Lion Air has been a loyal Boeing customer, and had previously unveiled a deal for over 200 737 Max aircraft, as part of an agreement for up to 380 737s. The question I can't help asking myself after reading this is? If Australia is giving huge sums of money annually in aid to Indonesia (one report I just read mentioned $3.8 last year, which could double in the next 4yrs). I was wondering whether you feel that we are simply contributing to paying for the likes of 27.6 of these new jets at todays rates, and are we getting good value for our contributions. Or, would the money go to fund the countrys real issues, such as millions living in povety and lack of educational facilities, which the pollies would probably like us to believe it's going towards? We have thousands of un-invited arrivals from that general area, and if Indonesia could see their way to donating some of that $24billion to Oz, Qantas could refurbish some of their aging fleet so more Ozzies could fly to places like Bali, and spend money to help their economy, apart from money to finance protection of our borders:amazon: Yes this post is aviation related:plane:. 2
Marty_d Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 According to Wikipedia, Lion Air is a private company owned by CEO Rusdi Kirana and family. Can't really see the link between foreign aid and a private airline. 1
