Jabiru Phil Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 As i am planning a 30 something hour trip through the centre in a few weeks time, I got to wondering about the life span of the battery, I bought it in 2007 so could be long in the tooth. Anyone know or had problems? It holds charge ok at the moment and hardwired for charging. Phil.
mAgNeToDrOp Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I'm not sure if this will answer your question directly, but our 296's battery recently died, Garmin wanted to charge something silly for a new one, so I took a chance and bought one off ebay, for approx $20 ( Hong Kong) delivered to my door. Its worked flawlessly ever since. It may be worth keeping one as a spare? I usually get a couple of hours out of the battery when not charging ( I haven't had a chance to run the battery flat and test how long it goes). 1
Jabiru Phil Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Thanks for the reply I will chase up. Just curious, did the replacement clip into the unit without any problems? Can't find any at that price, cheapest that I can find is$44.95 delivered Don't mind that if it fits ok Phil
facthunter Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I would be a bit carefull with these. Can't some overheat?. I had a 296 (love it) and was advised to get a good brand. Don't want a "smoker" on board the plane. Nev
mAgNeToDrOp Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Yes it clipped in just fine, perfect fit. Good point nev about overheating, I haven't had a problem but I'm not aware of any issues with those batteries, I don't use mine in an aircraft as the plane I hire already has a 296 installed in the panel.
