Gforce Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hi pilots, First post here and I just wanted to say G`day ! I'm "plane mad" and always have been. I'm finishing of my RAA citificate after 10 years hiatus after doing most of it in a Jabiru. Dusting of my log book I need about 5 hours to finish it off but I'm not current so expect that to double at least. Im looking to buy an aircraft at the moment. Would love a Carbon Cub S2 but its out of my price range at the moment. Im also building a Hanger at Rylstone NSW to keep my plane in, I'm also madly in to RC Aircraft and aerobatics and 3D flying and UAVs.. I also write for Airborne magazine for the last 5 years or so doing product reviews and teaching aerobatics. Looking forward to learning lots on this forum. Cheers - G 3

I'm not a pilot (yet) but I've flown RC for many years, recently including 3D flying and I'd love to start doing some FPV :-) What are some of the reviews you've done for Airborne? My first, year-long subscriptions just finished but I have read everything written in the last 12 months. Those Carbon Cubs are so cool and I'd love to be able to afford one at some time in the future (I'm only 14!). Tom
planedriver Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Welcome! I'm not a pilot (yet) but I've flown RC for many years, recently including 3D flying and I'd love to start doing some FPV :-) Tomwantstobeapilot, Most of us on here would love to own a carbon club too, but we don't all have youth on our side like you.. Just get yourself a job both nights and weekends and save hard, and you can do it. Don't forget to give Planey a ring to take him for a spin when you get it. I love to see younger ones on here that have ambition, good on you. Get the oldies to treat you to a TIF (trial instruction flight) at a local school, if you've not already done one. They'll probably curse me because you'll probably then be hooked, but it's something you'll never forget. I took my grandson for a TIF for his 16th Birthday and all the hot chicks at school now think he's a pilot and call him Captain Josh ( Thought you'd like thet bit) Rgds Planey 1
boingk Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hey there guys, great attitudes! I'm also an avid aero-enthusiast and have done a bit I guess - gliding, air shows, air cadets, GA and now RAA. I love my RC models and fly them when I'm not out in the Minicab. Favourites would be a 5ft nitro 'Stick' and a Freewing F6F Hellcat on electric power. Grand fliers with good manners and a turn of speed! A word of advice when after your first plane... think about what you really want to do in it. After getting an 80kt aeroplane with an extra seat and some luggage room I found that I didn't really take people up very much at all - maybe a handful of times in the last 8 months. I'm now selling my beloved aeroplane for something more 'realistic'... and affordable. Most of my flights are localish and for the odd trip here or there I can always take an extra half hour or that extra stopover for fuel if need be to stretch my legs. It doesn't have to be fast, it doesn't have to be flash... it just has to be yours and you'll love it! A big up on the working nights etc to pay for it - I'm a bar manager, at the ripe old age of 24, and put myself through flight school and then swung a loan to buy my aeroplane. I'm loving it. One other thing... if you like aeroplanes then you may also like motorcycles. I love mine and always liken riding to flying. Another plus of them is that they can be inexpensive to buy and run, and they also tend to pull the ladies Anywho, all the best lads! - boingk 2
Gforce Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Hey all, Thanks for the replies ! Nice to find an active forum for RAA ! Tom, my monthly column is called Park Pilot. Sure you would of read it each issue. Yeah, I big on FPV aswell. BoingK, could not agree more. As we all know, all aeroplanes are compromises. For me, I like back country flying and landing on beaches etc. Have not done that much of it yet but Im looking at buying a Highlander so that's on the cards... after I gather some more experiences AND additional training for STOL flying. I need to find a school with a similar taildragger I can finish of my RAA with.... Hmm... 1

It's cool to see more RC pilots getting their 'full-scale' licenses, or of course, the other way round :-) Tom
Gforce Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 I uploaded a video of my recreational U.A.V in the video section for those interested in seeing what I see flying them.
