Compulsion Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Friday saw my co-pilot (wife) and I pack our Jab170 for our first ever Flyin. We departed Gawler and enjoyed an 80 minute flight from YGAW to YLOX. I even let the co-pilot use the new Zulu2 headset ( like I had an option). Loxton Airfield is a really beautiful oasis of lush green lawns after flying over scorched brown earth. After 2 attempts I finally managed to get the wheels to stick to the runway and we taxied down to the club house. Bev and Kerry greeted my wife and I like old friends and this set the tone for the next 2 days. The members and partners of the Loxton Aero club put on a fantastic event and nothing was too hard for them when it came to helping. Being an absolute bigginer I could not have asked for more. I spent hours meeting some great people with a huge wealth of knowledge and best of all they where happy to spend their time furthering my knowledge of flying. The highlight of the weekend was the Hangar Dinner. Again the members and partners had done everything to make it a night to remember. My wife and I arrived at the field concerned about the forecast and low cloud over the Adelaide Hills for the flight home. A couple of phone calls to pilots flying into Rowland Flat Airshow eased my concerns. The club put on a big bush breakfast for us all before the mass exodus began. I cannot say enough about the people we met over the weekend. The hospitality and endless help by everyone. If you are like me and new to leaving the safety of your own airfield I would say as soon as you are safe and competent then attend a Flyin or even a BBQ at another Airfield. The experience is well worth the effort and the chance to meet like minded people that are willing to share their knowledge is worth the effort. All I can say is thank you to everyone I met and everyone that helped and gave me the benefit of their knowledge. To the people of YLOX I think you are an amazingly friendly group and my wife and I look forward to flying in for Sunday BBQ's in the future. 6 1 1

Compulsion Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Hi Gareth, Give me a yell when you are coming over. If we can get the time and weather let's go for a fly out of Gawler.
Jabiru7252 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Nice to hear all went well, 80 mins seems a long time, obviously head wind. What runway did you land on? The north/south runway felt pretty rough when I was there some time back. It had wild flowers growing all over it! I gather no rough running due oil leaks. Barossa air show was worth the day out. I think they had a reasonable turn out. I heard some folks sounding pretty impressed with the glider (DG1000) doing aerobatics over the field. My neck is still sore from staring up all day.
Compulsion Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Hi 7252, Landed on 026. Lucky it is a long runway as I used most of it. Checked the distributor before leaving and it was free from oil. You missed a great weekend. Maybe next time. The trip home was fairly uneventful despite the forecast. I will probably catch up Saturday if you are at the field. 1
