Rotax alert

THE CAA has released an Emergency Mandatory Permit Directive (eMPD) relating to some Rotax 912UL, 912ULS and 914UL engines. The directive mandates a cylinder head inspection for certain serial numbers for a manufacturing defect that can lead to catastrophic failure of the engine. A Rotax Alert Service Bulletin mandates that the inspection be conducted before the next flight.

Hi Guys. . . This information is BOUND to be available in Australia too, but if you have not seen it,

Links are available to the MPD on the latest BMAA E news .

Is this the one that requires a sparkplug inspection for oil ingress ?

No Clive,

This is related to manufacturing defects in the cylinder heads on some of the 912 and 914 engines, and the alert is issued for a Mandatory Permit directive for inspection.

Phil the latest ASB on Rotax-owner.com is this one:http://legacy.rotax-owner.com/si_tb_info/alertbulletins/asb-912-062-ul.pdf

While the fault is with the cylinder heads, the mandatory inspection is of the spark plugs.

OK Clive, I just sent this out, as I didn't see any references to it on any of the forums, and I thought it said something about a manufacturing fault in some cylinder heads. . . . . . My 2 aircraft don't use the four stroke Rotax units, one has a continental, and the other ( microlight) has a 2 stroke 503. . . . .) Just trying to be helpful. . . . ( ! )

Go to CASA website and you will be able to arrange for all AD's to be sent to you. I get them and am lucky I don't own a chopper as most of them apply to fling wing.
