Aldo Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Thanks to Doug (Toowoomba yesterday) for allowing me the opportunity I never thought I would have. Might have to put one on the shopping list. 6
Aldo Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Ah, didn't he let you fly it. Rotten bugger. Nah, I think I was lucky enough to be allowed to sit in it.
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Had the opportunity to sit in a Hawker Seafury once. Much bigger aircraft that you had to climb to get in, but once in a very similiar cockpit to the Spitfire, same ring-top stick and all. The size of the cockpit did not match the size of the aircraft at all, probabily by design so Spitty pilots could transition easier...................Maj...
Downunder Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Bit of trivia about cockpits. Spitfire and such aircraft (Seafury continuing on from the Tempest/Typhoon design) actually have what we consider small cockpits because the average person back then was much smaller than today. In only 60 odd years we've blown out in height and size considerably..............
