ausadvance Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Im not sure how much better things get than this! finally an inside look of what it is really like to fly in a mosquito! 4
lark Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Great vid! There is an interesting chapter in Neil Williams book AIRBORNE describing his first solo in the Mosquito. As I have said before, well worth a read!
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Yes great footage for sure. Iwas surprised to see a stick for control, always thought Mossies had yoke type controls. Is this one a special model ?.....Some good Mossey photos in the Airport terminal at Townsville, (upper level) they were based here during WW2 and did a lot of photo missions. Unfortunatly one forgot Mt Elliot is where it is, and parked on it permantly during bad weather...I've watched that footage 2 or 3 times before, but I'm going to watch it again..pretty rare these days !..........................Maj...
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Doesn't he fly her her beautifully, as you would with a Merlin outside each side window !...and that lovely Vampire sitting dityfully off the left wingtip. Anyone know what the annoying horn is, don't think it's stall warning,...maybe prop out of sinc warning. Love the crackle of the Merlins as he gets off the throttles on touchdown on the numbers... .......Maj...
facthunter Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 All the rattling noises are to do with prop synch. The longer the time between them the closer the speeds are. At some points there is almost none but everytime the throttle or pitch controls are moved they change. With inevitable play in the linkages getting them in synch would be difficult ( but desirable) When formating nearly impossible. Nev
frank marriott Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Ross Sounds/looks like gear warning [low MP] to me. You've been flying the litewing too long????????????

I believe the control type was variable between fighter and bomber models. 2
kgwilson Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Nice flying with some great scenery, mostly in the victor lane to the east of Auckland city & up the harbour past the city centre & harbour bridge. I always enjoyed doing that but it could get pretty busy at times. Once during the Americas Cup we had 16 choppers in view at the one time.
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Life is always good when you are flying along and no one is shooting at you!
