stevron Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I went to pick up my plane recently , on my arrival , I found that the left hand fuel cap was off . It was gut wrenching, I did not know if it was left off or tamper with, as it was Sunday there was know one to ask from the repairer. I was to fly away on Wednesday with others , my decision was to leave it at home , very annoying stevron.
facthunter Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 You don't know who has been fiddling with it. This brings up questions of tampering or something being put in the fuel Fuel stolen etc. You need secure hangarage. Nev
stevron Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 The plane was in the hands of the dealer for some repairs and not in my hangar. Stevron
facthunter Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Have you taken the matter up with him? Obviously you do a good preflight ( especially after servicing even though you would think that is a time when it is OK). You wouldn't have spare cap anyhow inmost cases. Nev
skeptic36 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I reckon I'd be getting said dealer to drain the fuel system and refill it at his cost. Regards Bill 3
stevron Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 I sent them an email and they did not acknowledge my communication . Stevron
Yenn Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 After maintanance is the most likely time to find defects in your inspection. From my experience it is not safe to assume anything is left in a safe condition. I used to have to carry a handfull of screws to refit inspection covers, when I used to fly Cessnas.
Vev Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 A very frustrating situation .... If someone was taking your fuel it would be unlikely they would take your fuel cap too ... albeit not impossible. Hopefully the repairer has left it sitting on a bench... he may want to reflect on making good your inconvenience and improving his maintenance process. On the other hand, if it has fallen off in flight I would be concerned about the design of the caps and checking the locking mechanism for damage?? Cheers Vev
stevron Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 the cap was not lost, it is attached by a chain, it was just not locked into its position, just lying on the wing.
