biggles5128 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 What is the process of installing nav lights on the tips of a J230 wing. Is there a cavity which wires can be passed from the wing root or is it too late once assembled?
Guest Howard Hughes Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Don't know about Jabirus specifically, but perhaps through the wing leading edge?
frank marriott Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I haven't built one but the aileron control cable goes out through a channel in the wing. I would be looking there.
Keenaviator Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 There is a track along the trailing edge where the aileron cable runs. I used some yellow tongue from chipboard flooring to install my lighting cable - wings off.
Guest Mark_hwltt Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I did strobe installation on a LSA55/3J , use some yellow / green tongue plastic joiner as a snake but glue some small steel washers to the end first, push the yellow tongue from the cabin following the aileron cable, as the cable gets to the wing tip use a magnet held on the wing skin to guide the end of the yellow the last bit. Welding magnets are good to use, cover with masking tape to protect wing finish. Once it pokes into the aileron inspection hole at the wing tip, tape the wire to the yellow tongue and carefully feed and pull back into the cabin.
facthunter Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Goodness me. What a deep well of knowledge this forum is. Nev 1

That will work , On the 230 wing there are holes in the ribs , You don't have to take the wing off , At the wing root end ,after drilling a hole in the skin where you position your lights ,you'll Have to drill a small hole Into the end rib , as this is the only solid rib . Getting the string down through the wing is not difficult , you need somthing long and thin to attach the string to . I've joined a couple or three lengths of dowel , but you can use any thing stiff . Check photo of wing rib holes This is a 250 wing , the 230 wing is similar IDE go down the leading edge as there's no restriction all the way down . Cheers

facthunter Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 That's very enlightening. How do you stop the wires flopping around? Nev
AVOCET Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 T That's very enlightening. How do you stop the wires flopping around? Nev That's easy .
AVOCET Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Have you ever built a ship inside a bottle Cheers
facthunter Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 If I did the string would break. It is surely simpler to build it outside the bottle. Nev
