This is as much a discussion as an announcement.

Currently Aircraft Agents can be a site sponsor for $100 a month which gives them a single display advertisement in the right column of several pages on the site. It is them and their support that allows this site to function.

What I would like to announce is a new way in which Aircraft Agents can have even more presence on the site and with you, the users and the thousands of visitors that come to the site every day whilst also providing the users with an extra medium to interact with various different agents about their aircraft. Aircraft are not purchased by a display advertisement on a web site or magazine, they are purchased by having a presence and continual interaction with potential customers.

What I am proposing is that Aircraft Agents can have on the site, as a sponsor, is:

  • A full listing in the Aircraft Section that they can manage including details about their aircraft, its specifications, links to reviews or web site etc, videos of their aircraft and even their own Photo Gallery.

  • Their own dedicated forum for them to use with their existing and potential customers 24hrs a day, 7 days a week

  • Their own unique site user name of their aircraft and ability top promote their aircraft in their signature

  • Their aircraft is featured on the site 3 times a year, and it is displayed as "Featured" on the Aircraft Section Home Page and also on the overall Recreational Flying Site Home Page at the very top. They can even pick the months they want to have their aircraft featured to perhaps tie in with some announcement in their forum or an event.

  • Their name comes up in the top right column of most site pages when they come online PLUS they have an ability to have 1 to 1 instant chat with users on the site when the click the Instant Chat icon next to their name. They can have video conversations and even exchange files like spec sheets, or quotes or anything else, engaging with all site users

You can currently see how the Skyranger is presented and featured in the Aircraft Section and on the site Home Page on display creating a presence to everyone for the Aircraft Agent.

The cost for all this is less than half of what a quarter page advertisement is in a magazine that is just once a month...this here at Recreational Flying is 24hrs a day, 7 days a week of interaction and exposure to around 2,000+ unique visitors every single day and all for just $125 a month (a 1 year agreement invoiced each month).

A magazine gives you a quick page flick exposure once a month, here at Recreational Flying over a month you get:

Which shows over 16,000 odd unique visitors per month, more than many magazines, but what is great is that as well as 12,000 odd regular visitors, you are also reaching around 4,000 extra different unique visitors every month so your audience isn't stuck to the same people every month. The interesting thing is a visitor spends an average of around 9mins on the site per visit and you are getting exposed for that time rather than a few seconds page flick.

For those that just want their aircraft listed in the Aircraft Section, the cost would be $300 + gst a year.

Any thoughts?

Thoughts are it would be a heck of a lot easier to use those features than try to attract the same number of visitors to a regular website and offer the same services. And as far as advertising costs go, it is very cheap exposure!

Now you can see why I have been wanting to take the site Internationally because with 16,000 odd unique visitors per month compared to the number of recreational pilots in Australia there isn't much room left to grow...remember 8% of registered users are International visitors and we have on average 400+ registered users logging in each day, some log in every day, some every few days, some weekly etc (note: registered users, not guests)

Interesting idea, Ian. Any aircraft owner would surely welcome this sort of contact. As a Jab engine user, I am very interested in any information and informed advice from the manufacturer. The problem is that they are in a similar position to RAAus. I assume they already have to run any post or advice past their lawyers. Given the forum traffic regarding Jabiru engines, sellers and manufacturers of other brands would soon develop a defensive posture.

The installers of the 1 to 1 Instant Chat have been working on the installation which is causing issues that they haven't encountered before due to the security systems we use on the site...some users are getting locked out...so when that is up and running properly without any glitches I will get this going.

There are many more great features coming in the whole site update but they are getting done slowly so as not to cause too much of an impact on users...there is the new Supplier's and Service's Directory, the new User Help Desk System, new Pilot Resources and much more...even in a couple of months a new post editor window that works on mobile phones and tablets...HOORAY, finally:

it even makes adding images as attachments to posts much easier by simply copying and pasting

You will be able to see what edits you have made in your posts with a post edit history...there is so much coming but slowly slowly as I understand that you would prefer it done this way so you don't get over whelmed and can get use to new improvements that are made on the site for you in a manner that you feel comfortable with them...thanks
