Admin Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has published the following urgent Airworthiness Directive: Rotax Piston Engines 2013-0117-E - Engine Cylinder Head Section - Inspection / Replacement This, and other Airworthiness Directives can be viewed at: http://www.casa.gov.au/airworth/airwd/index.htm 1
Gentreau Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 So now everyone with a 912 should check their spark plugs, as per the original AD. Strange thing is, this new AD states that the required checks listed in the previous AD be carried out, but CASA seem to have removed the previous one (AD 2013-0055-E) from their website. So how is anyone supposed to find out what checks are required ? . 1
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 They are just so up to date aren't they ?......simply a 'covering our butts again exercise' on their part. Any Level 2,3,or 4 or infact any interested member who has described to Rotaxowner.com (and your crazy if you own/operate a Rotax engine and haven't) would have received their auto email alert from the above some weeks ago. I did and of course read it with interest as I always do, both as an operator and an active L2 maintainer. This particular SB only refers to a small number of effected engines with S/nos starting with 5 or 6 anyway but is of course worth reading, and deals with a relatively small number elf effected cyl heads that were produced with a manufacturing defect most of which ended up in engines sold in Europe or the US. Generally UL maintainers are well aware of new important SB s within a week of issue, and I really don't why it takes CASA several weeks to catch up, evaluate, alter and reissue the same damn thing. Maybe they need to also subscribe to Rotaxowner.com ???...................Maj...
Guest Maj Millard Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 To find the original Rotax SB, you can sign on or access Rotaxowner.com. , the Rotax BRP website or Bert Flood Imports. my recommendation would be Rotaxowner.com as they are usually the quickest and most up to date with SBs, plus you can register for instant alerts to be sent to you if anything affects your engine (register your eng s/no or engine type).......................Maj...
