ayavner Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I can not catch a break... got there an hour early, even went to the shop to replace all my expired nav stuff, went out and did a thorough preflight, perfect radio calls and taxi, damn respectable short field takeoff - and........ ..... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VERY FIRST CIRCUIT.... ..... it starts raining. So decided to call in for a full stop and live to fight another day. It was pretty light, and we were hoping it might pass by, but in the end its better to be on the ground and all that. Precious bl**dy wooden prop... I think it will be a good thing, as I have a bit of a preview as to what the test is like (including the practice one a couple of weeks ago) so nerves should not be a factor when the stars and planets finally line up. Was hoping for a better write up today, whats everyone else in the Sydney area doing on this rainy weekend? If I'd finished yesterday, today would have been my first Nav....
old man emu Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I'm watching the low cloud and rain showers drift across from Picton to The Oaks. OME 1
RobynD39 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I can not catch a break... got there an hour early, even went to the shop to replace all my expired nav stuff, went out and did a thorough preflight, perfect radio calls and taxi, damn respectable short field takeoff - and............. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VERY FIRST CIRCUIT.... ..... it starts raining. I feel your pain. I had to wait 9 months for my next lesson when I only had about 2 lessons left to do for various reasons. Started my lessons again last weekend. I finally did my first solo in our RV yesterday and all that past frustration has been forgotten. Just do your preparations and then distract yourself with other things until the planets align. Good luck with it all. 1
motzartmerv Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 That sux mate, don't worry, you will have your day!!!.. 1
ayavner Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 Thanks guys, would be nice to get this behind me if for no other reason that I would no longer have to spend entire weeks at work doing nothing other than day dreaming about it! The Man didn't get much out of me this past week haha...
motzartmerv Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Hahahha. You think that stops when you get your cert?? I've got bad news for you:) 2 1
turboplanner Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 It was a good lesson in meteorology, plus the cross country limitations of a wooden prop aircraft. If this had been your trip to Natfly, for example. 1
ayavner Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 hahah yeah who am I kidding... i'm a tragic... I've even got the Oracle stunt plane for a screensaver. But that's OK i guess since I work for Oracle!!
ayavner Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 It was a good lesson in meteorology, plus the cross country limitations of a wooden prop aircraft. If this had been your trip to Natfly, for example. True, true.... I'm not too bummed, other than the uncertainty of when can I try next. Will be firing up the flight sim again for sure...
Ivan B Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I hope you can get it done soon the anticipation must be killing you. I was very much looking forward to reading about your experiance. 1
Gnarly Gnu Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Feel for you, the east coast has lots of rain and frequent inclement weather. Nice to visit (at ground level) though. Not many flying days lost to weather here, just a general shortage of hours in the week. 1
Neil_S Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 hahah yeah who am I kidding... i'm a tragic...I've even got the Oracle stunt plane for a screensaver. But that's OK i guess since I work for Oracle!! Hi, I also have the Oracle stunt plane for a screensaver as I also work for Oracle here in (not very) sunny Melbourne! Which area do you work in? Cheers Neil 1
ayavner Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 I'm at the North Ryde (Sydney) office, Technical Account Manager with the (relatively recent) RightNow acquisition. Small world! adam
Neil_S Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I'm at the North Ryde (Sydney) office, Technical Account Manager with the (relatively recent) RightNow acquisition. Small world!adam Hi Adam, Well I have been in the Database Performance Support team for a number of years (10+), but I actually retire at the end of the month......which will give more time for FLYING! Mind you, now we have the wooden prop back on the Gazelle I also have to be more careful about flying into rain, and given the Melbourne weather......oh well, I have lots of books to read too. Cheers Neil
coljones Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Friday was brilliant. The Oaks, Mittagong, Marulan, Braidwood, Batemans Bay and then a pitstop at Moruya - 140 nM. Then Moruya, Ulladulla, the GA route around Nowra to Kiama and Wollongong - 70 nM. Then back to The Oaks via Thirroul - 36 nM. The weather was supposed to be a bit wet (in spots) but apart from puffballs at about 5000 on the way down only the wind was an issue but obeyed the met forecast (to a major extent). The southern romp to Moruya and back is a great trip. Going on Friday for an after lunch transit of the then de-activated Nowra restricted space is a trip I would recommend - great for a nav-ex. One needs an ASIC for Moruya and Wollongong.
shu77 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Ouch, yeah Sunday was not a day to be flying in the Sydney region. Don't worry mate you will get there
ayavner Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Hah, barely even a day to get out of bed! Yes, we are rescheduled for the 15th!
ayavner Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 the blog version: http://morerightrudder.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/white-whales-and-windmills/
ayavner Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Yesterday - exact repeat... I'm getting a complex...
motzartmerv Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Hang in buddy... Its coming, you cant lose them all. Its statistically impossible..:) 1
Ivan B Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 3rd times the charm. Didn't get to do mine untill the third try. The weather can't stay bad for ever
ayavner Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 haha think that was actually the 4th, think I left a couple out to spare everyone my mood :-P I will say that there is some value to having a bit of practice in being mentally prepared for and starting a test.. a few more false starts and nerves definitely won't be an issue. We briefly considered switching over to the Tecnam since it has the composite prop but its been so long that I didn't think I could fly it to test standards. This would have been nice, as 22/6/2011 was the first time I went up in a light plane, albeit a Cessna 172, but it would have been cool to have accomplished it on the 2 year anniversary of contracting this bug. 1 year anniversary would have been even nicer, but can't go backwards I guess... so when do you start on Pax and Navs Ivan?
Ivan B Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Need Another 3 Hours Min for the Pax and I won't be starting the navs untill Late September. I realy hope you can get your cert flight in soon. I'm sure there will be a great sense of relief when its done. It can't rain forever. 1
