Nostalgair Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hi All, I just came across this animation of a fatal Cirrus accident in the US. The aircraft was performing unapproved low-level aerobatics at the time. It is rather sobering and has a tragic outcome. http://tinyurl.com/lfxan9z Cheers, Owen
fly_tornado Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 starting that roll @ 220' is stupid, he won't make that mistake again. 1
facthunter Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I don't think the animation is accurate enough to derive much of a conclusion. You need control position information and airspeed for that. Poorly executed aeros at low level are usually fatal .Might seem like fun but a high price. Nev
boingk Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 ...tragic outcome. Tragic, but predictable. There is a reason we are not approved for aerobatics, and especially at low level. People need to stop doing stupid things if they want to be safe while flying. If you are set on aerobatics then do them properly - with an approved instructor and in an approved aircraft. - boingk 1
turboplanner Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Cirrus is hard enough to keep flying conventionally - not an aircraft for a sleepy head at the best of times.
ahlocks Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 There's nothing tragic or sad about it IMHO. They pushed the limits and found them. Too bad so sad.. 5
djpacro Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 The NTSB report at http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief2.aspx?ev_id=20111113X85646&ntsbno=ERA12FA068&akey=1 Seems to be multiple idiots to me. 1
motzartmerv Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 natural selection in action. If it wasnt the dodgy aileron roll, it would have been a powerline, or a tree, or simply just a misjudged steep turn and the accompanying smoking crater. Flying low level is still (statistically) the most dangerous thing one can do in an aeroplane, throw in some sh!t aero's and the odds are 10 to one against. 5
