Old Koreelah Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 News from another forum is a warning about Space Weather. Sunspot activity is forecast to peak in August, with possible impact on GPS and other systems. I guess I'd better brush up my old-fashioned nav skills. Now where did I put my Astrolabe? 1
Old Koreelah Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Like the Y2K reported problem of 2000 We'll all be ruined...! Seriously though, we need to be aware of the potential impact. But wait, there's more. The next one just might be the big one. http://www.zdnet.com/solar-storms-to-peak-in-2013-7000009197/ Makes our current problems look trivial.
turboplanner Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Phew, I thought you were going to say sextant there for a minute OK. I don't have a problem with sunspots, it's just that they give you an uneven tan. 1

No, I happened on an old sextant once, and couldn't figure out how to drive it. Blinded by pointing it at the sun. The astrolabe looks easy enough! When your sunspots all join up you'll have an overall protective layer and be better adapted to the climate!
