XP503 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 In the not too distant future I plan to purchase a new set of sails from Emah at Lismore. My question is, does anyone out there have any experience, tips and advice they would like to share? With the passing of Wayne and his depth of expertise, I am worried about getting it right. There are a few guys at Boonah who will hopefully offer support but I was wondering if any of you had anything to share on the topic. Thanks in advance
dazza 38 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Mine will have the sails put on before David's but mine being strut braced makes it pretty straight forward. I will be helping David with his sails. Any advice with the rigging, cable tensioning etc would be appreciated.
XP503 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks Dazza. And yea I will be there with bells on to fit yours with ya
Patrick Normoyle Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Guys, I have done mine twice but ob a Fisher Mk 1, let me know if I can help, but with two of you or more it is not hard. 1
XP503 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 That's good to know Patrick, may come to you for advice.
metalman Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 A question kinda off topic, has anyone thought of picking up where Wayne left off with building fishers and repairing drifters?
XP503 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 Emah is still manufacturing the skins. Good luck finding someone as good as Wayne to take over the airframe (etc.) side of it......RIP
ausadvance Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 A question kinda off topic, has anyone thought of picking up where Wayne left off with building fishers and repairing drifters? there is a bit of talk going around between a few people close to Wayne I have heard but at this stage I'm not sure where it is all at, I only know as i got asked if I want to be apart of it but I have to much else going on so I cant help. I really hope it comes off
XP503 Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 I have Emah lined up to manufacture a set for my Drifter as soon as the funds permit. But it would be great to have a specialist maintenance facility/contact for parts/repairs etc.... Viva le Drifter!!!!!!!
Patrick Normoyle Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I'm at the hanger tomorrow night, I think I have a video of Wayne's that shows how to cover the wings, ill let you know how I get on. 1
M61A1 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 A question kinda off topic, has anyone thought of picking up where Wayne left off with building fishers and repairing drifters? I have contemplated it. I am an L2, with CertIV in aircraft mechanical and structures, but I don't have Wayne's long term experience on type or the capital to jump right in. I'd be comfortable repairing, but not manufacturing. When I got my skins off Wayne last year, he provided a DVD with instructions. I'll see if I can find it.
dazza 38 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 there is a bit of talk going around between a few people close to Wayne I have heard but at this stage I'm not sure where it is all at, I only know as i got asked if I want to be apart of it but I have to much else going on so I cant help. I really hope it comes off If, who ever buys it and if they keeps it at Lismore, or anywhere with in a hour or so drive from the Gold Coast .As I have a FIFO job ,I will be able to help them out from time to time if needed.
M61A1 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Found my dvd's with Wayne's tutorial for sail fitment. Let me know if you need a copy.
M61A1 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Also found that I can get things like batten tips (you are probably gonna need some of these) from http://www.lockwood.aero/p-2571-leading-edge-rib-tip-12x035.aspx as well as many other drifter bits. Would be handy to be able to aquire them locally though.
