rob lukies
G'day I've heard that this site is a good one to ask questions and hopefully someone will be able to help out. I am interested in amphibious aircraft have been for a number of yrs. I've had my ticket for 7 years now so ready to get this dream of mine alive. The info I'm after is very simple. I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience with amphib and which aircraft are out there? Either GA, ultra light, light sport aircraft because of locations, salt water, paddock landings. Any suggestions will be muchly appreciated, thanks.
skeptic36
This one looks like a lot of fun http://www.flysynthesis.com.au/catalina.asp About 60k I believe, but probably a bit more now the dollar has got a bit more sensible. I also heard that fly synthesis has gone to the wall, anybody else hear that? Regards Bill
metalman
Zenith also make floats to fit a wide range of aircraft, did you do your endorsement in Oz?
facthunter
If you are going Salt water consider the extra requirements for corrosion protection from the safety and cost aspect. Nev

Nev I've been talking of putting mine on floats, a good mate reckons if you want to wreck a good plane put it on the water, I think I'd be a fresh water only type, and still have to do a lot of corrosion proofing. Looked into getting a float rating in Alaska, worked out I could fly there ,have a good holiday ,do the training all for about what I was quoted here! Something to think about I reckon. dazza 38
What is the situation with insurance ? By that I mean, it must be more expensive than land based planes wouldn't it ?
