Guest ozzie Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Drove past Belmont Airport (ex Aero Pelican) for the first time in a year and noticed a 4 sale sign on the fence advertising the 15 hec property. Looks like the possible end to another airport.
Mark11 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 http://www.theherald.com.au/story/1533888/mirvac-to-sell-belmont-airport/ No need to worry Looks like a nice spot
Mark11 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 http://www.theherald.com.au/story/467528/proposal-grounds-airport/ Maybe need to worry
Ultralights Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 The Civil Aviation Safety Authority said Belmont Airport could no longer be considered an airport within its guidelines because the landing strip did not have adequate dimensions but for the decades before, it was perfectly ok to operate RPT... but now its different? 1

Garfly Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Or ... maybe no need to worry? : http://www.nbnnews.com.au/index.php/2013/05/26/belmont-airport-up-for-sale/ And on a current Lake Macquarie City Council site: Q. Can LMCC re-open an airport (at Pelican or Cooranbong) to provide important services and generate income? Council supports the re-opening of a small scale airport at Belmont on the Aeropelican site. In particular, an airport that provides regular passenger services as a feeder to intrastate, interstate, and international airports is favoured. The benefits would include convenient service to local residents and businesses, employment opportunities and tourist access. Council does not own the former Aeropelican site and would not therefore be in a position to generate revenue from any such venture. The former airport site at Cooranbong has been approved for redevelopment by the NSW Government for residential and other urban uses. It is understood that the owners intend to proceed with that development removing any potential future re-use of the site as an airport. http://haveyoursaylakemac.com.au/faq/index/3#35
sfGnome Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 but for the decades before, it was perfectly ok to operate RPT... but now its different? No, I think what the bloke was saying was that if the tourist development went ahead, *then* CASA would not allow it to be used as an airport - ie it was an argument against the development.
Guest ozzie Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Shame if it went. Some really good memories there. Can be a tricky strip. lots of fun in x wind.
facthunter Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 They go back a long way for me. I flew in there when Keith Hilder first opened it. He had a Draganfly ( early 60's). Nice spot on the edge of the lake. Last trip there 1990 Piper Navajo. I think we called it Blacksmith's after the nearest beach. Nev
