Yenn Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Today was the big day. After over 3 years of building I got to do the first flight. So easy after 11 years of training on my Corby Starlet. A great flight in reasonable conditions, but cloud at 3000'. So easy to land when you can see ahead in the flare, but the photos look as if I put the tailwheel om first. Still got the RV Grin hours later. 9 7
seb7701 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Congrats! Always thought they were my favourite of the RV's, so very jealous!
Bubbleboy Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Fantastic and congrats! Cant wait till its my turn...back to the shed I go... Scotty
skeptic36 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 but the photos look as if I put the tailwheel om first.. Soooooo where are these photos you speak of 2
ports Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Congrats on the flight, particularly after the effort of building it!
gregrobertson Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Congratulations Yenn. The smile of a builder who has flown his aircraft for the first time is only removable surgically. Every pilot should do it at least once. Greg. 1
planedriver Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Congratulations mate, thats great news. We're all looking forward to seeing some pictures though, either with, or without a leggy babe posing with it. 1
RetiredRacer Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 WOWW!!!!!! Congratulations Yenn!! Well done! As others have said, where are the photo's?? 1
facthunter Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 You don't have to land successfully here Yenn as long as we get the photos. I once heard many pilots are conscious of their "Image". Nev
Guernsey Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 First Flight....could be hearsay...photographic proof required or moderators could close down your post. . Congratulations anyway Yenn. Alan. 1
Guest Maj Millard Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Well done Yenn...Bet the little Corby is jealous !..................
slartibartfast Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Congrats Yenn. Just watch yourself. Many men have been brought undone by jealous starlets. 1 1
Yenn Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 I am not too good at this, trying to upload a couple of pics. Hope they appear. 7
Yenn Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 This is the second attempt to upload a couple of pics. I thought the first attempt failed. 3
sfGnome Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Noice! I'm trying to work out from the second photo whether the rego is VH-FOO or VH-POO.
Hongie Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 VH-POO is a cessna 185 i think? I'm sure ive seen a picture of it on here somewhere
facthunter Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Is it named Winney? Nev Doesn't FOU mean MAD in French? Nev
metalman Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Tail wheel first is very easy on the RV's, I've spent a bit of time in a mates rv6 and found it would touch down tail first real easy, in the end I used to round out ,get the three point attitude and just wait, the slippery buggers don't like to stay put if there's a hint of extra airspeed
Yenn Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 I can honestly say that 50% of my landings in the RV4 were excellent. The other ome today left a little to be desired. but it was a nasty gusting wind and I didn't have an audience.
Tex Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I prefer the tail wheel on first... In fact isn't that the way it should be? Slight tail wheel touch then the mains? 1
facthunter Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I like that, but in some circumstances the T/W can take a lot of load. In a Chipmunk the tailwheel has been known to push into the fuselage and jamb the elevator UP. Not a time to go around once that has happened. Normally with the T/W first it just gently lowers the mains onto the ground and rarely bounces at all. Some aircraft don't have enough elevator or the wing stalls first. Know YOUR plane. Nev 1
