Riley Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Like this 74 year old wood cutter, who looked for a better way: http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_eye/2014/04/30/vipukirves_by_heikki_k_rn_a_new_and_improved_ax_that_makes_chopping_wood.html Looks good when splitting straight-grained Birch but I'd want to see it working well with good old Jarrah or red gum before I parted with $281. But then, eucalypts don't grow in Finland. Riley 1
coljones Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 What's a "pound"? Also a unit of Australian currency until Feb, 1966 - was the equivalent of $2
bexrbetter Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Also a unit of Australian currency until Feb, 1966 - was the equivalent of $2 Yah, I was poking Nev in the ribs ;-) I used to get either sixpence or 5 cents for pocket money in '66 and buy a bag of mix lollies and a ChooChoo bar.
Old Koreelah Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 When wool was a Pound a pound there were a lot of cockeys with aircraft. Tamworth had Rollers everywhere... ...and you'd be surprised what's still lurking in dusty old farm sheds. One local grazier went to the big smoke to buy a new Rolls and bought two on a whim. One for spare... A shame that most of us think each boom will last forever. Instead of rebuilding roads and railways, we spent the windfall on new cars and the like. 1
kaz3g Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 about 453grams 454 is closer. 16 ounces is closer still. 28.41 grams in an ounce if someone wants to do the maths Kaz
kaz3g Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 It's interesting with some of these depressed type threads to see who is likely to have been through the interminable "coping with change" training that the larger companies have conducted for the past 30 years or so, and the people who have been through those sessions, boring and unnecessary as we all thought they were, seem to be a lot more possible than the self employed or farmers or people brought up in small companies whose owners never did any personnel enhancement. I reckon I'm an expert at change survival. I have had 11 different careers, have gained tertiary qualifications in 3 quite different disciplines, and I'm still working full-time (50 plus hours per week) at age 70... Not necessarily the consequence of a deeply held personal desire, either. Kaz 1
facthunter Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 20 shillings is one pound. Seems hard to comprehend today Nev
ben87r Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 "who wants to pay $300/hr to hire a 40 y.o " 40yr old 210 is the best AC I've ever flown. And did my training on brand new (under 200hr) aircraft.
