flying dog Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Well here is a report on the event for those who were wondering if they should go next year. It was teriffic! I was there from Friday to Monday and the two days of the event were great, both in weather and what happened. (As what has been said: I am the first to arrive and last to leave. This year I really was!) Although there have been years when there have been more planes and/or people, this year was good. Maybe there is a "magic number", I can't say. But it was fun with the number there. 3 ballons flew in both days early in the morning. This year the hot rods were also in town and they were an extra added thing for the town. The hot rods happen every two years, so if you want to include them next time, don't go next year. ;) Although it had been raining before the event, it was clear skies and no rain for the two days. Light winds and warm days. Yes, the nights/mornings were a bit cool/cold, but not intolerable. The "Care Flight" helicopter made an unexpected visit Saturday. They were stopping off to refuel the helicopter when flying past, however, the two pilots came over and had breakfast to refuel themselves as well. So to clarify: The airport now has Avgas and Jet fuel available. The Oz Runways people were there and helped people with their program. The food was great, as was the entertainment. The club have also now recently opened an "on airport" accommodation for people flying in. It is the old terminal building and has 5 beds. 2 double and 1 single. Great for families wanting to stay at the airport. There is a kitchen, toilet, shower, TV, airconditioning. Check with the club for more details and pictures. I was the first guest and was really impressed with it. Job well done to all concerned with the fly in.
