ParkesFlyer Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Can anyone tell me the status of Talbingo Airstrip? Is it still operated by Snowy Hydro? Is permission to land there required/obtainable, or is it closed to recreational flying? -PF.
Methusala Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Heard of someone(?) landing on the dam wall at Talbingo but don't know who it could have been. Sorry, don't know whether you can use the strip. It is pretty short, about 600m having been designed for Beavers and later the Pilatus Porter. Don

Last time I landed there ( several years ago ), I had note attached to my aircraft telling me in no uncertain terms not to without permission from the hydro mob.
planesmaker Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Permission is required but to my knowledge is never given. But you can try. Pity, it is a beautiful place and a good airstrip. Tom
ParkesFlyer Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Thanks Tom, I'll inquire and report back. PF.
Ultralights Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 i have not asked about talbingo strip, but i have asked and received permission from snowy hydro to use the Khankoban strip. i asked about Island bend and told No, as the strip is not maintained or monitored.
