Phil do you have any detail re the survival rates and crash numbers in the different sectors of aviation?
damkia Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I love statistics... As we have been told many times by the various police forces around the country that 30% of all accidents are caused by drink drivers....this also implies that 70% are caused by stone cold sober drivers. The lesson? Drink up, you're safer.... There are liars, damned liars, and statistics. 1
facthunter Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 If you drink enough you don't even know you have had an accident. Nev

I've read that 75 % of people make 3/4 of the population, I've also heard that 67% of statistics a made up on the spot!
ben87r Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Was watching a policeman being interviewed by a reporter once, he that x number said (60% or something) of accidents had speed as a factor. Reporter jumped him straight away with " so your saying that they were speeding or that speed was a factor. Turns he didn't mean speeding but that speed was a factor. Who would have thought that.
Marty_d Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Speed is a factor in all accidents. If all vehicles had no speed, they couldn't crash...

Phil 96% survival rate in aircraft crashes? What were they doing, taxiing into other aircraft??
damkia Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 96% survival rate in aircraft crashes? What were they doing, taxiing into other aircraft?? Q1. Define "aircraft crash" (stats 101)
Phil Perry Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 " Q1. Define "aircraft crash"(stats 101) I don't have to define anything. . . .I got that from the Qi book of 1,227 facts to blow your socks off, ( This came out of a very popular "QI" TV show in the UK hosted by Stephen Fry, and when I get it back from the wag who borrowed it last,. . . I'll post the website containing the source material for all the "facts" therein contained. In the meantime, you could google UK -"QI" TV show - Stephen Fry,. . .and go from there. . . the book was compiled by three of the QI "Elves" ( those in the backroom who checked all the "facts". . .) Phil
Marty_d Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I could make a guess that they included any incident of an aircraft being damaged, while occupied (well I hope they included the occupied thing to exclude wind/flood/fire damage to parked aircraft!) But as the man said, define "crash". Is a hard landing that bends the main gear a crash? Scraping your wingtip along another aircraft? Having the rolling stairs bump into you a little hard??
