makes me think of the fantastic story Norm Sanders wrote in sport pilot in relation to the history of my home strip Tyagrah, The entire stirp was ploughed through the swamps as a drug running strip just out of some fairly serious towns! not sure what month the issue was but well worth a read!

Been thinking through a few possible scenarios here. .........1. Night flight , pilot got lost, ran low on fuel , landed hoping to take off again at first light, busted nose wheel, absconded.

2. Night flight, ran out of fuel, emergency landing, busted nose wheel,, absconded

3. Night flight , landed at correct rendezvous point, vehicle pick up failed, absconded.

4. Night flight, unexpected engine failure due overheatin, due massivly overloaded aircraft, emergency landing, absconded.

5. Night flight, landed at incorrect rendezvous point, no planned pick up, absconded....

...any one of which might have been lethal for the pilot; drug syndicates take discipline pretty seriously. They have killed thousands in northern Mexico.

Just going on an article about the Air America front company they used.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_America_(airline)

Thanks Marty, that was interesting.

A few months back I had a holiday in Ballina. The Coach driver Annie from Ballina/Byron tours was an absolute mine of information and had also studied the Tyabb fiasco in depth. She was grateful for the loan of my Sport Pilot mag which I had with me, to add to her local knowledge of what went on.

She was a mine of information on the subject, which (stuff the rest) I found absolutely facinating . The others can enjoy the talks on growing coffee, etc.

One views the lovely scenery when on tour, but can easily drive past the historic murky past, without even having a clue of what went on.
