jamesoz Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Just saying hello. I have just converted my UK PPL(A) to a RA-AUS Pilot Certificate. All signed off yesterday! Live at Birtinya and carried out training at Caloundra with Go Fly Aviation, which has been great. Would be good to catch up with other pilots from the area. Maybe looking for a share plane in the future. Cheers James 2
Sean Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Good work James, many happy days flying to you. Sean. 1
facthunter Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Congratulations James. Happy aeronauting. Nev 1
djpacro Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I haunt the Sunshine Coast at times, may run into you. 1
cscotthendry Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Welcome James. I would say that you picked the right crew to train with too. Did you fly with Damien? 1
jamesoz Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Thanks for all the comments. Look forward to seeing you up there some time! Scott, I did fly with Damien about a year ago, but did the conversion with Ritchie and signed off by Neil. I'd recommend them all. I've also really enjoyed flying their new Sling aircraft, makes a nice change from the old cessnas and pipers I've flown. Djpacro, I enjoy the odd aerobatic flight, completed my tailwheel conversion on a decathalon and flown in a Bulldog and an extra 300, would like to do more in the future. What do you fly when your here? Cheers James
Guest Maj Millard Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Welcome James, look foward to your contributions in the future.....Cheers Maj...
Ballpoint 246niner Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Welcome James a pleasure to fly with you.. Stay safe 1
djpacro Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 What do you fly when your here? Super Decathlon, Xtreme Decathlon, Pitts S-2A. 1
planedriver Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Welcome James, now your taking me back half a century, I saw the first Bulldog making it's maiden flight at Shoreham back in god knows when, probably 68, 69ish. Nice little plane with lots of grunt.
djpacro Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Was Bill G in the right hand seat for the Bulldog's first flight?
planedriver Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Was Bill G in the right hand seat for the Bulldog's first flight? Not sure about that. I was just returning from a run along the south coast and around The Isle of Wight with a business friend (when I should really have been working at a conference) and he pointed it out to me while returning to park the aircraft. We then watched in awe as it went up like a homesick angel compared to what we were flying in.
Soleair Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Hi James - congrats on your RA licence. I've recently moved here from the UK. I have a UK PPL (earned at Sandown, Isle of Wight), albeit out of currency. I'm told I only need 5 hours to convert to an RA permit. Is that all you needed? How current were you? happy landings Bruce
Sean Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Hello Bruce. GoFly Aviation based near you at Caloundra & Caboolture will have you up and flying in no time and we have the biggest selection of aircraft to select from www.goflyaviation.com.au 1800 707 433 0426282226 Sean.
Soleair Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Nah - bit far for me from midwest NSW! I think the regs say you only need 5 hours to validate a UK PPL; I was just asking James if that had been his experience. But I've got Caboolture on my list to fly to when I'm airborn again, as long as they don't mind very small homebuilts.
planedriver Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 But I've got Caboolture on my list to fly to when I'm airborn again, as long as they don't mind very small homebuilts. Sounds interesting Bruce, what do you have in mind?
Soleair Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Still building the shed to build the plane in so it's early days yet. But I plan to build a MiniMax.
planedriver Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Still building the shed to build the plane in so it's early days yet. But I plan to build a MiniMax. "Gordon Bennett" as some would say, that's just what I was thinking. Many years ago I could have possibly been burned at the the stake for that, thinking i'm a witch.
Sean Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Hi Soleair. Is Armidale any closer to you? GoFly Aviation has just opened a new flying school there as well. As far as YCAB is concerned, everyone is welcome. Sean.
Soleair Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 What, you're thinking of building a shed, Planedriver? My local club can sort me with hoursbuilding, thanks Sean. I'm going to spread it out over Summer to keep me inspired. Also, if I get my licence back too soon, I'll want to go flying instead of building!
