DrZoos Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Seriously the best way to get a job fast is to find some decent sized mob who have reasonable turnover and work free for them till they see your an absolute goer... Employers love anyone thats willing to volunteer to get an in... It shows a sense of drive and attitude that the best resume in the world cannot possibly convey I used it several times to short track my entry into certain fields with 100% success rate. 5 from 5 In between you do any work you can to make a wage ... It might cost you half a months lost wages, but id bet my left one it improves your job chances 1000% Twice i didnt hook a job with the mob i volunteered for, but at interview with others it showed a commitment that you cant get across in a resume or interview unless your doing it. And it was the reason i got the job. I did a fair bit of career counselling and it worked a treat to get people an in that they wouldn't have got otherwise Volunteer hours generally lead to casual hours, which hen turn into jobs. You just got to be careful that you commit to a certain number of hours eg 20 per week. That way as they need you more they will offer you casual wages
ben87r Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 Hey Pot I replied to your msg a while ago but never seemed to appeared! Looks like allot off fun but I don't think that they would let me near anything like that for a while yet! Ild struggle with 500agl at the moment!!! Doc, although I like you idea the friendly folk in aviation would most probably be a little too happy to have me volunteering I think! From what I hear my first 500 hr will pretty much be that anyways! Bit of an update, things have been pushed back a little and now should be done by mid next month, I'm on the twin now which is allot of fun and have about 20hrs left to go. My instructor has been away so back into it hard from the end of this week. Had the last two weeks off pretty much but will still get 50hrs for the month!!
ben87r Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 Bit of bad timing too, kakadu were hiring last week. Would have been nice in a little while 1
ben87r Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Well, that's the MECIR ticked off yesterday, 3.2 hours with 5 approaches and half an hour in the sim for the DGA, ATO was quite happy with the flight, had to harass him to say anything bad at all. Doing CPL in Monday and as long as the weather gods allow the flight to go ahead I'll be back off to cairns Tuesday! So now it gets a little serious, if anyone out there wants to put on a hardworking new CPL let me know!
