rankamateur Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Never heard of channel surfing? Take command of the remote!!!
Compulsion Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 My wife has full control of the remote. More than my life is worth to try and take it from her. 1 1 1
dazza 38 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I can't believe that there are households out there with only one TV.
Blueadventures Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 is doing a story on the young bloke who just completed his round the world solo record. Can't wait, makes sitting through Australia's Got Talent almost bearable :) Great story. well done. The return greeting / crowd ticked all the boxes.
facthunter Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Putting a lot of trust in ONE motor. Nev
ben87r Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 14hrs over water in a single! His B@!!$ must be made of unobtainium 1 2
facthunter Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 You would want the engine to be blueprinted Par excellence. and a few hours run up in it. Nev
rocket1172 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Continental 550, 300 hp, full throttle most of the day, hot temps at low level. We got the full 1500 TBO out of it no worries. Sure it's in the back of your mind, but these engines keep going.
frank marriott Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Wearing 4 bars (Aka airline captain) always amuses me. 1 2
DGL Fox Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Just watched this great story, how proud would you be if it were your son..very I would say, who cares what bars he has on his shoulder, this young man is what the Australian pioneering spirit is all about and it makes me proud to be an Australian watching him achieve his dream, if you don't get inspired by that story, well you are hard to please...Well done Ryan you did Australia proud !!!!! David 2
johnm Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Compulsion ....... you are putting a lot of trust in one TV controller mate
rankamateur Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Wearing 4 bars (Aka airline captain) always amuses me. Flying for his own airline with the most important passrnger in his world?
dazza 38 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 There is a reason for wearing gold bars. It makes the person appear to be very important, which is a major advantage when transitioning through back water countries. Especially since he is only 19 . 1 2

Guest Maj Millard Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 He really didn't do anything that Bert Hinkler and many others like him did back in the thirties, and with less efficient engines , way fewer places to get fuel, very basic navigation, no reliable or readily available WX info, and no auto- pilot, GPS or glass 3D cockpit display. Give me a Cirrus with the works, and a fuel card or two, and I 'd be happy to do the same without the four bars.........Maj...
DGL Fox Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Why can't you just say well done to the 19yr old young guy, why is everyone so focused on what he is wearing ??? Bert Hinkler only flew from England to Australia and he was in his mid 30's I think when he did that...is this the tall poppy thing again or is this just this forum...Come on Maj give him a little credit... David 1 3
facthunter Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Everything is an experience but it wouldn't compare with the unsupported efforts by the Pioneers. Hinkler especially . Lindberg had his plane specially designed by a small firm, RYAN and I think he flew for something like 36 hours. No forward vision . Fuel tank there. Preparation is everything with these ventures. Proper planning etc Warm glass cockpit and an autopilot and a good groundspeed and communication GPS for nav . Global weather forecasts available. The reality would only happen when the plane has to ditch or a large storm makes it grim going. Having weather radar is an aid that he would probably not have had..Night flying without it is more risky. I'm not knocking this effort, just trying to put it into context. As for his youth, plenty of Lancaster pilots were younger than that. Nev 1
winsor68 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Good on him. But IMO hardly something to get too excited about. At least he got some coverage although of a rather low standard in typical 60 minutes style. Did anyone see the cancer breakthrough story before hand? Sort of made the 19 year olds story seem like a bit shallow. 1 1
winsor68 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 For that matter does anyone recall the 60minutes story on Dave Sykes who recently flew a Trike from England to Australia unaided and paraplegic? I must have missed that one.
facthunter Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 THAT was incredible. I don't have a link. People with handicaps who achieve are a source of inspiration. Nev 1
DGL Fox Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 As for his youth, plenty of Lancaster pilots were younger than that. Nev Yes mate but they had to put their lives in danger, they had no choice as 19yrs olds.. THAT was incredible. I don't have a link. People with handicaps who achieve are a source of inspiration. Nev Yes of course they are, everyone who gets off their bums and does something and just doesn't talk about it or let their disabilties prevent them for achieving their dreams are inspirational people.. No matter how you look at it he has the record no matter what he flew and I think it's great .. David 1
facthunter Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 DGL F They volunteered the airforce. People who call me MATE in the context you have don't mean it.. Nev
DGL Fox Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 DGL F They volunteered the airforce. People who call me MATE in the context you have don't mean it.. Nev Sorry I will take the mate back then..happy now..geezzzzz This started off a congrats for a young man that did something special, whether you agree with that or not and as normally happens here it has been side tracked to something completely different to the intended theme...
