viewfromright Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Media reporting this as a four seater! http://au.prime7.yahoo.com/n1/news/a/-/local/18989068/light-plane-flips-while-landing-in-ballina/
dazza 38 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 That wouldn't surprise me. It has been quite windy up here. I flew home today on a -8 400 from Roma. We were cranking along at 600 Kph. We actually had to do one orbit over ESK because ATC couldn't fit us in as we would have been 5 minutes ahead of the slot time. 1
turboplanner Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 It's stopped working FMe, try searching for the story wasn't much, just video of them pushing a 230 along the taxyway. 1
Old Koreelah Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 It's stopped working FMe, try searching for the story wasn't much, just video of them pushing a 230 along the taxyway. Three sources say a 4-seater; one called it a Cessna.
facthunter Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Stop buying the papers then. They will notice that. Nev 1 1

rankamateur Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 http://www.northernstar.com.au/news/plane-flips-over-at-ballina/2025029/ I read the article, it was definitely a Cessna. Don't read the pictures!
rankamateur Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 try northern star news not a cessna it looks like jab and is a jab neil If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck.
Guest Nobody Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 It's stopped working FMe, try searching for the story wasn't much, just video of them pushing a 230 along the taxyway. It's a shame to see that they may be causing more damage by pushing on the elevator.....
facthunter Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 If it looks undamaged bar the prop and has been on it's back, it's a Jab. Nev 1
turboplanner Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 If it's a Cessna, some wanker has given it a Jab vertical stab and painted the "Jabiru" logo on it.........
facthunter Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 There's no doubt of what it is. ( Plenty of pictures).. Willy willies are capable of changing the scene fast. It's not always easy to see them till they affect you, unless it is dry and they are known as "dust devils" and a bit more visible.. Nev
Guest Andys@coffs Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Hmm did a job on the VASI..... I guess that isn't a plop it back on its concrete and she'll be right type of thing...... Wonder if that affects the RPT's flying in after dark..... The aircraft looks to me like the wing attachment for the RHS is stuffed when you look at the photo of it from the front.....The prop doesn't look like it touched the ground at all.....that is amazing! Andy
Guernsey Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 It's probably a Cessna pretending he's grown up to be a Jabiru. Alan.
viewfromright Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 http://www.northernstar.com.au/news/plane-flips-over-at-ballina/2025029/ I read the article, it was definitely a Cessna. Don't read the pictures! From photo No. 7 it would appear that the cessna (sic) has veered off 06 runway. There was a strong westerly blowing about that time, could it be a down wind landing?
turboplanner Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 They can be a handful with an upwind landing if there are gusts.
rankamateur Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We just have to accept that Cessna is media-speak for high-wing light aircraft. He was very near the end of the downwind runway, so maybe more likely was landing into the wind?
facthunter Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 VASIS lights are designed to break off easily. Damage to them would impose restrictions on some types of arriving aircraft. Might have to nominate an alternate after dark. Nev
quentas Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Cessna flips=crushed tail write off. Jab flips=bent pitot tube. I am always amazed at the strength Jabs in a crash. Im glad the pilot is ok.
Guest Maj Millard Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Cessna flips=crushed tail write off. Jab flips=bent pitot tube. I am always amazed at the strength Jabs in a crash. Im glad the pilot is ok. One of the problems with composite structures quentas, internal damage or delaminations often not visible externally, especially down the road to another buyer. The only indication may be a log book entry showing the 'crash/damage history of the aircraft. I can guarantee you that if it went on its back there'll be more than a bent pitot !.............
quentas Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 When they are repaired, they are quite often a bit heavier. I heard one repairer say they never break in the same spot after the repairs..lol
