Current rego time

I have just sent in my rego renewal . I have made sure that all the info on the sheet that came with the renewal was filled out and sent copies of the rego numbers photos and placards .

Any idea how long it will take for completion . My Gazelle has been registered for a long time with RAAus.

Cheers

prob NOT what you want to hear but ... I read all the hiccup posts here and elsewhere and sent in all that was asked for plus as much more as I could expect that was wanted one month out from rego renewal. Follow up inquiries did not reveal any issues but 3 days after rego expired got a letter asking for stuff I had already sent ( landings last year total landings etc) and a new weigh and balance. Problem now is aircraft is not flyable and is very remote - read expensive -- for an "inspector", RAA terminology not mine, to do the W&B. Turns out an L2 suffices as an "inspector" for this purpose.

ah well

Had no problems with renewal in Feb...... did it online and emailed a couple of pics in.Received card before rego ran out.

A/C is pretty new LSA....

This appears the norm now. Obviously with missing documents, noncomplying props etc things are taking longer to sort. But these things are what started the whole problem in the first place. With 12 months gone then the process must get easier - the noncompliance issue still being worked through, but with the bulk having been reregistered then this would allow more time to deal with the individual problems.

One would assume that those renewals that have gone through post audit problems would now become a formality.

Well

Here is the update on my rego. In 2006 the l2 who was looking after my plane at the time fitted the required strut carry through update and informed me he would complete and send in the paperwork. A request for the paperwork some weeks later from the raa was again given to him and he promised to send required paperwork in.

I have heard nothing since then until my rego was refused until paperwork is completed.

I have no qualms with the rego process that is currently in progress as I am a stickler for procedure myself however it is very hard to make sure all is complete when people like this L 2 don't do their jobs and I was not notified at some other time that things were not complete so I could chase this up.

Lucky I have a copy of the invoice so I can ask for a copy of the required paperwork then get a another L2 to sign off on the work

From memory there are only two approved wing strut carry-throughts approve for that CASA required AD. Information that the aircraft was so modified also had to be forwarded to CASA for their records. I have fitted one approved type to a Gazelle/ Skyfox, which I recall had an approval sticker on it. It is an approved modification so would need to be signed of by a Level 2 ( unlimited), especially if it is an aircraft used for hire or training. Additionally, the L2 performing the job is required to keep records in his L2 maintenance log................Maj....

Having finally sorted out my registration (I think?) and giving RAAus the information they requested I sent an e-mail querying why it takes weeks before an owner is notified of missing information. I won’t say at this time whether it was a staff member or not but part of the reply explaining why it has been taking so long has got me thinking of whether we are treating the CASA appointed delegate as just another staff member in the registration process chain, or as a temporary appointment to judge our ability to get things right. The small passage of the reply that got me thinking is below:

“A key sticking point has been the presence in the office of a CASA delegate who must vet every renewal application and approve it. Missing information may not emerge until this stage and it then goes back to the staff to deal with.”

If he is just treated as just another staff member in the chain and regularly finding errors, does it indicate our staff are not yet capable of registering various types of aircraft without supervision? It may explain why it might take weeks to finally learn information is missing from a file if this is the case. However, if ( as I believe) he is there to judge our abilities and report to CASA, certainly by now NO file should make it to his desk without being complete. If this second scenario is correct and he is merely a CASA overseer, we cannot blame him for any holdups or the time it takes to notify owners of problems. The only conclusions I can draw from this is that either our staff are not capable of doing it OR do not have the resources to be able to do it. Either way, I think it needs to be addressed.

A-Kev, I totally agree/support your postulations - we have met the enemy and it is within! So what's the solution, keep pissing and moaning and flogging the staff with a cricket bat with a rusty nail in it or devote extra resources (more staff? - effective systems? - diligent supervision? - whatever?) towards making a positive change? Whilst not directly casting aspersions on the admin staff at Fyshwick it is patently obvious that they are unable to cope. What will it take before the Board stops waffling and instigates a format that will (a) effectively clear up the backlog of mostly petty hiccups and (b) adopts a recording system that isn't fraught with lost data? It is hugely ignominious that RAA, holding the commission from Casa to administrate recreational aviation, must now have a dibby-dab from Casa (no offence intended towards the individual) vetting our each and every move - " is that placard printed in the correct font and is it visible from under the rear passenger's seat'? We really are victims of our own historial lack of interest in what our compulsory membership /registration fees should be providing us with. Whatever the case, our 'status quo' isn't cutting it and if not soon corrected, we may all be looking at joining the local bowling club for personal enjoyment rather than spending significant resources in attempting to fly an RAA-registered aircraft. Ah, I live in hope (but I ain't betting any more cash on it!).

We can keep complaining about the deck chairs and even ask Jack Dawson and Rose Calvert to move but pleas talk anyone that has explored CASR Part 61 and 21 and more particularly gone to one of the CASA seminars= Better still do it yourself.

CASA is merely doing due diligence on RAA in preparation for the transition to regulation by authority whether licence (read RPL in our case) or registration- granted by THEM rather than the current system of certificate of exemption issued by RA Aus and others.

Having just look through this, all I can say is that it is a masterpiece in Bamboozlement!!

Looks like ALL the deck chairs are being moved, and most of the links within the website take you to places that don't seem to have much to do with what you're looking for?!

My hobby horse is propellors, and trying to find any of the rules or changes in the new system keeps looping back on itself.

Can't find anywhere to make comment on proposals and/or changes?

Annoyed..

The CARS are already "Law" and become effective 3rd December.

Bottom line is that nothing changes except for "new"

There is variously 3 or 4 years for transition to the new regulations for incumbents

For Props see CASR Part 21 Subpart J

this in turn will eventually direct you to:
