Hi,

I have been a pilot for over 30 years , I am a farmer on the Darling Downs , I have built a RV/7 and now building a Dream Aircraft Tundra also have a Drifter 1/2 share with my son plus a couple of other oldies.

But my reason for writing here is that my letter has been posted in the Magazine which I haven't got yet, I have already had some response to the letter Re ASIC Cards , I did have a meeting with my local Federal Member Ian McFarlane and he told me to get as much information on problems incurred with access to planes ,toilets, etc with the ASIC card and he will forward the information on to Warren Truss who now is the member for this among other stuff.

I am happy to collect and forward the emails on to my federal member as we need to demonstrate to the powers that be the ineptness of this card and not keep talking to ourselves how annoying it is.

My email= [email protected]

Cheers Rob

Wonder what happened to that petition that was being circulated a while back before the government changed. Someone probably needs to talk to the new bloke in charge about it.

Keep up the good work, Rob. If ever there was a waste of public money it is the damned ASIC card, whose main function seems to be occupying an army of bureaucrats and keeping us aggravated.

There are many stories of the ludicrous ineffectiveness of the card. One pair of aviators landed, taxied up to the terminal, parked and walked thru the gate to use the toilet. On returning, they were prevented from passing back thru the gate for lack of the little card. After remonstrating with the official to no effect, walked 100m to where the security fence ended, then back to their plane.

Could you get your political contacts to pass on our concerns to the new razor gang.

It is a waste. If it's effectiveness was reviewed it would hardly be seen to be cost effective, I'm sure. Good luck with Mr War on Trust. If it works I will be amazed but you have to try. Nev

I found mine very useful last weekend when the road to the Airport was closed because of a tragic crash.

I pulled out the lanyard of cards and flashed them at the police officer on the roadblock each time I passed by. Whizzzz.... straight through everytime!

At least, I think it was the ASIC.

But it might also have been the AAAA membership card for my late mate, Mandy, the Kelpie dog, that did it.

from the government perspective it is probably highly effective. The costs have been shifted to the consumer. Private enterprise makes a killing making the cards and the citizens have the dubious honour of reduced taxation and a card which has dubious effectiveness and gives the local puffed shirt an excuse to give aviators even more grief. Puffed shirt- the local security guy, usually paid for by the operator to implement a federal policy with no contribution from the feds.
