jorditzu9 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Hi Guys, My biggest thing that gets me everytime is understanding and decoding weather forcasts. I always seem to get confused Is anyone able to give me a quick rundown on this example. BRISBANE (YBBN) TAF YBBN 232317Z 2400/2506 01015KT 9999 SCT040 FM240500 06011KT 9999 SHOWERS OF LIGHT RAIN SCT025 SCT060 FM241200 17013KT 9999 SHOWERS OF LIGHT RAIN SCT020 BKN030 FM242300 13017KT 9999 FEW025 BKN035 PROB30 TEMPO 2405/2412 VRB20G40KT 2000 THUNDERSTORMS WITH MODERATE RAIN BKN020 SCT060CB RMK Thanks!
Camel Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 There is a set format and a good way to understand is use the Visual Flight Guide Rules VFG available online at Casa, down load the book go to page 130 and either side of that as well and you will find fit easy to follow, I hope. Good luck. Link. http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dll?WCMS:STANDARD:1001:pc=PC_90008 If your stuck after this I can give you some other links and if that fails I will help, don't worry it is easier than it looks. The abbreviations, format and codes are all in this book,
jorditzu9 Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks for your help mate, The main issues is everything to do with time, I understand all the weather abbreviations just working out utc time etc gets me every time! 1
Camel Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 UTC is 10 hours behind EST and 11 with daylight saving, if you can,t do it in your head and have an smart phone then you can set UTC on it.
ben87r Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 The way I work the time is, say its 0400 UTC, on the east coast it would be 1500 3pm so, UTC would be one hour ahead of the local time if it wasn't 24 hr time ie 3pm,simples?
furio Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 also go to page 109 of the vfg there you will see a great table that helps convert utc to any aust time zone.
