Guest OzChris Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Big News!!! I have purchased a Recreational Aircraft of my very own  Its a TST E Thruster - true 'back to basics' flying... I pick it up on Saturday 11th October from Orange. Im flying QF400 Melb - Syd, then REX to Orange. Then 'Thruster Class' all the way home to Ballarat - some 400nm! I will certainly have a trip report on this little adventure with plenty of pics after it is completed I am very EXCITED...:biggrin::biggrin:
Guest Glenn Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hmm Orange hey? Will you be dropping in to Cowra? You would nearly have to pass by wouldn't you? Congrats on the plane
Robbo Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 so that was you who one the power ball? :) Speaking of that I got $500 on a scratchie today :)
Guest OzChris Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I might call in Glenn - its only 40 odd nautical miles from orange... :) WX pending of course...
Guest OzChris Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 so that was you who one the power ball?:) Speaking of that I got $500 on a scratchie today :) If I won the powerball I wouldnt have bought a Thruster  actually, second thoughts, maybe I would have :)
Guest Glenn Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 400nm in a thruster, now that's an addiction! How long is that going to take you?
Guest OzChris Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 It should take around 8 - 10 flight hours Glenn...depending on the prevailing winds of course. It only has a 40 lt tank and with a fuel burn of around 15 - 17 lts per hour gives a max cruise of 2 hours...so that means lots of stops along the way :] The longest leg that I have planned is 80nm...with a half way point for emergency re-fueling/setting down due to wx, etc. Should be a real adventure - and very cold with no doors :]
Robbo Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 It should take around 8 - 10 flight hours :eek: Take a bottle to piss in
Guest Darren Masters Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Congrats Chris on this mate! I miss my Thruster dearly and wish I had never sold her :frown: If you want to meet up on Saturday I am at the airport with the kids. Let me know mate. If there is anything else I can help you with let me know.
Guest David C Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Lucky devil ..... Have fun in your new machine .. There's nothing quite a good as real flying . Best wishes and luck for your ferry flight . Dave C
Guest Chainsaw Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 ...Should be a real adventure - and very cold with no doors :] So, you have bought a Mini Moke then  (You young whipper snappers probably wouldn't know just how a Moke is.)
sixtiesrelic Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 You'll get to smell the smells along the way like in Tiger Moths. Had a fly of a Thruster in the late seventies ... yes ... back to basics.
Guest Darren Masters Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 So, you have bought a Mini Moke then  (You young whipper snappers probably wouldn't know just how a Moke is.) Chainy, I have been in/or on a Moke

Guest Glenn Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Expect to see some photos of a thruster bouncing down the runway here
Guest Chainsaw Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 How fantastic Chris! I'm sooo pleased for you. Of course we expect a trip report par excellence. Not sure how you will go getting pics though. Maybe at each fuel stop. Glenn you should be able to get a few of him in flight. Great stuff.
Guest OzChris Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 This is my preliminary Flight plan: Orange - Cowra (visiting a friend) Cowra - Temora Temora - Holbrook Holbrook - Shepparton (visiting a friend) Shepparton - Bendigo Bendigo - Ballarat (home :])
Guest OzChris Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks to this forum and the great people giving me important information...I have decided to revise my flight plan. I am now going: Orange - Cowra 36nm Cowra - Cootamundra (Waypoint: Young) 54nm Cootamundra - Holbrook (Waypoint:Wagga) 75nm Overnight Holbrook Airfield. Next day: Holbrook - Falcon Hawke Airfield [shepparton way] (Waypoint: Corowa) 80nm Falcon Hawke - Bendigo 80nm Bendigo - Ballarat 53nm That gives me a better route of 380(ish)nm That is if the weather behaves itself :)
Guest Chainsaw Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 wx looks excellent at this point Chris. Pity we didn't have a TAA member at each stop. I do hope you sleep under your wing at Holbrook in a swag. You have to do this correctly after all :) DON'T forget your camera. Get a pic of the handover and whenever you can. I'm sure Glenn is polishing his lens right now. I'm actually quite excited for you mate.
Guest OzChris Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Thanks Chainy...I am sleeping at the airfield at Holbrook - not sure about in a swag though. The camera is packed :]
