Guest apollo11 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I live in Adelaide not far from the Parafield Airport. I've been interested in aircraft ever since I was 10 and I'm now 47. My Mum took me to England and we flew a BOAC VC-10 from YSSY to LAX then a PAN AM 707 LAX to JKF then onto Shannon Airport. There we changed to an Aer Lingus 747 (back then probably a 100 or 200) to LHR. On the way back it was a QANTAS 747 all the way, then an ANSETT 727 to Adelaide and then ANSETT F-27 back home to Whyalla. Boy what a great time. I feel lucky to have flown on a VC-10 and a 707, absolute classics. Anyway I'm still passionate about aircraft and yes I did want to be a pilot as a kid but I was rubbish at maths. Probably my one regret. Anyway, I hope to one day get my PPL when I've finished paying off the house. Look forward to talking to you all on the forum. PS I wish we still had ANSETT & TAA...

Im about your age give or take a year or 2 and I reckon watching Apollo 11 live as a 9 year old, started my interest in aviation and all things science. I can still remember it was lunch time and I was in grade 3. Never give up the dream of flying it is easy to make excuses like paying off the house and getting the kids through school, I used to do that too, then I turned 40 ( midlife crisis) and just said what the heck I am going to do this and I did.
Guest aviatrix27 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Welcome! And, as Terry said, it's never too late. My hubby was older than you when we started learning together and we both got our PPLs about 10 years ago.
Guest apollo11 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Thanks all for the kind welcomes. I will not give up the dream of eventually getting the PPL!!! It's great to be part of such a supportive community. Cheers.

Me too Terry. I went to school that morning and at assembly our Headmaster said, today is a historic day when man walks on the moon. So we were all dismissed and sent home to watch Neil walk on the moon. Remember it vividly. I watched it and was captivated, then later getting to go on the trip to England with Mum, that was it for me, flying, moon missions...love it. I will get that PPL if it's the last thing I do. Can't have too many regrets in life. Might even get it before another human walks on the moon!!!!
