Guest Westfallen Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I work as an F-16 crew chief for the US Air Force. Sometime in 2011, I'd like to come to Australia and find work in aircraft maintenance, as my wife and kids live in the Ballarat area (long story ). There's very limited information on the web about foreigners coming to Australia for aviation work, and frankly, am looking for help/contacts. With the economy being the way it is, it seems like a long shot for me! I've looked into joining the RAAF, but probably don't have what it takes to make it through basic training again (F-16 landing gear tasks are terrible for the knees). I know limited information about requirements for AME licences, but that's about all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Coop Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 G'Day Westfallen, There's beginning to be a bit of a shortage of LAME's in Oz. You may do better than you expect. The warbird area is one you should check out. There's a company at Wangaratta that manufactures replica parts for warbird restorations. They get orders from around the world. Hope that helps, welcome to Oz. You may find us a bit over-regulated over here- if you have problems maybe you could check out the scene in NZ they have a thriving light aircraft and restoration/replica scene. Regards Coop
