Guest DougT Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 G'day to all here on this Forum, Been browsing through some photo's , very impressive indeed, All my life I have loved aircraft but have never took up flying, I guess 30 years of truck driving didn't give me time, I just recently went for a flight in a Jabiru 120 , I fell in love with it and would like to own and learn to fly it but now at my age and on the pension I feel I left the run too late ...(need Lotto) My main interest seems to be WW2 Aircraft, I have an intense interest in the B-24 Liberator and it's history in the SW Pacific, I am living at Adelaide River in the NT which is only 65 Klms from Fenton Airstrip where the USAAF 380th Bomb Group were based, so began a lot of study into that group leading up to being a guest member, I also collect Nose Art Photo's with 6543 files so far,in the next few days I'll do some exploring into the works of this Forum and add some great photo's I took a few weeks ago of USAAF Aircraft landing at Darwin . Living here I thought the Croc was ideal Doug:croc:
siznaudin Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 G'day Doug, and welcome to the group.. My pa-in-law was an instructor at Temora (Tigers, and lots of 'em) and right at the end of the war had a short time with Libs out of Darwin. They must have been an extremely "physical" thing to manhandle, as an entry in his service record suggests that he wasn't quite up to the energy levels required for the controls. We've come a long way (eg fly by wire..) since then. Some would suggest too far !! Geoff
Guest Glenn Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 welcome aboard Doug. Hope you have fun and learn more
Guest DougT Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Thanks Glenn and others. I'm looking forward to the Jabiru Owner stopping off here soon and he said we'll go for a flight over the WW2 Fenton Airstrip,
Guest Darren Masters Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 G'day Doug. Good to have you here You may find the warbirds thread useful. You will also find that flying is really addictive and once you get the bug it is hard to shake. Again, welcome.
