Guest Glenn Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Nice one Chainy. Finally airborne :appl: Anyone know why that thing is dangling off the top of the tail? You can see it better in the last photo above
Guest David C Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Glenn ... I think its a static air pressure vent . It's used to give a very accurate airspeed indication , and it placed there so that it is out of the turbulent air flow , and hence in theory gives a accurate reading for airspeed calibrations.... at least that's what I think ... I could be totally wrong though , but I'm sure I will be corrected if I am .. Dave C
Guest Chainsaw Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I thought it was a dangelberry lol It was also on the 777 and 757's 1st flight.
Guest Glenn Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 No they left a plumb bob attached when they were getting the tail level  Seriously though, seems logical Dave
Guest Michael Coates Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Its a trailing peito and static vent, used a lot on first flights and calibration flights etc.... we used them in the NASA challenge but they were on the wing and were retractable so they didnt drag on the ground when taxing etc... Well done Boeing... NOW IF ONLY WE HAD BIGGER SEATS WITH MORE LEG ROOM AND NOT THE CATTLE CLASS UP THE BACK !
