Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 G'day. New here from Canberra via The Alice. Thank you kindly for having me. . Hoping to restore a Moth - or a Seagull. Starging with the props. . Making do with a camel, but - the "second-best" off-road vehicle in the Aussie outback. . I'll loiter a while here 'till I know the terrain. . Cheers, . - Theo. .
Guest Chainsaw Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Welcome Theo. Restore a Tiger or a Gypsy? Camel eh? Sopwith maybe? awww didn't think so.
Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Meant to say "loiter". Us blokes from the bush aren't all that familiar with sophisticated "G & Ts".... :) . - Th.
Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Tks Cheney and Kaye. Well, yes and no. There's that Neil Cottee Sopwith C used to be at Barradoo. I've sort of lusted after it ever since setting sights on the, surprisingly large beast in Cottee's hangar a few years ago. Where is it now? . - Th. .
Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Crikey..! Another comms literal. Read "Burradoo". I'll now go silent. Bennett out... ;-). - Th.
Guest Darren Masters Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 G'day and welcome from NZ (well former Aussie)
Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 G'day and welcome from NZ (well former Aussie) Thank you kindly, Darren. I can understand well your decision to land there, stay awhile. I've happy memories of Lake Taupo. (Not in a Grumman amphib, either :-) - Theo.
Guest Theo.Bennett Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Welcome Theo.Restore a Tiger or a Gypsy? Camel eh? Sopwith maybe? awww didn't think so. Bit of a hard ask, y'reckon, "Ch"..? Maybe Aussie Supermarine can be encouraged to produce a Camel kit aircraft sometime? But, hey, restoring a camel wouldn't have daunted the late, great, Col Pay would it...! Or the blokes over at Temora TAM... Now, there's a thought. A Sopwith flying with the Warbirds. Problem is how to get a dinkum dogfight going. Apart from the Fokker replica at the AWM, there just aren't any WW1 German fighters around. Or are there? Is it possible one or two escaped the crusher after 1919? It's at least a novel plot for an Aussie "Dan Brown"... The Jesuit Knights Templar have a secret tri-plane in a remote Swiss eyrie just waiting for the Hadron Collider to turn back time to the days of Biggles, Ginger, Snoopy, and The Red Baron...! - Th.
