Guest Bacchus Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hi Forum , nice site to all involved ! Newish pilot , gained Pilot Certificate care of Adelaide Biplanes in an Evektor Sportstar December last. A member of other forums , gaining information for the near purchase of an aircraft . Would love a sportstar but the $$$ wont stretch , seriously considering a beautifully built Zodiac 601 HD , Rotax powered. ALL opinions appreciated on every aircraft so give me your thoughts !!
Guest just Mal Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I thought about the STING Carbon from Checkoslavakia, good value but maybe not the look of the 601 or the Sportstar. I found an article which suggests the 601 has a problem with flutter, causing the breakup of six aircraft in the U.S. and a problem with indicated airspeed . this article from 2009 might help . http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/world/ntsb-warns-that-zodiac-ch-601xl-planes-can-break-apart-in-flight_100179736.html
Guest Bacchus Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Hi Mal, Thanks for reply , the issues with the 601 are well documented as you have found, however this is an issue which involves only the XL model. The 601 HD ( heavy duty ) and 601 HDS ( speed wing ) are earlier models with a different and much stronger wing spar design. There are hundreds of the earlier models flying without any flutter issues reported over the years , the negative with the 601HD is that they are repotedly not as nimble as some other low wings and a bit draggy !! with a top of 100kts , but as a new pilot I don't want to break any records just build up some safe hours , so it could be the plane for me. Would like to hear of anyone with a Zodiac 601 ( anyone out there ?? )
Guest Darren Masters Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Hi Bacchus. Welcome to the forums. Lovely machine to fly the Sportstar. Good luck finding a machine
