allexmolineaux Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Hello everyone again, I'm trying to apply for my SPL but it says I need an ASIC or AVID to apply. I went through the forms for an ASIC and AVID and says you can only apply if you need one for either entering a security controlled airport or are airline staff. It also says that I need to get my Class 1 Medical to apply for the ASIC or AVID. Therefore do I need to go and get my Class 1 Medical, then apply for my ASID or AVID and then apply for my SPL.. It seems like I am missing something, surely I dont need to go through all this for my SPL.. Any help would be great!
Guest aviatrix27 Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Hey Allex I know everything's changed since I got my SPL 13 years ago, but I believe it is still done through flying schools. You only need a Class 1 Medical if you want to go commercial, if aiming for a PPL Class 2 is all you need. There is a searchable list of DAMEs (doctors who can do the aviation medical) on the CASA website. As far as I know, you only need an ARN to get an ASIC or AVID, the ARN (aviation reference number) gets allocated once you get your SPL. Find a flying school in your area and talk to them.
edfathead Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Its probably abit late to help you out but I just went through this. I went for my medical first (class 2) then applied for my Asics and student licence at the same time. I got them in the mail three weeks later.
